Hogs & Podz Posted April 19, 2012 Share Posted April 19, 2012 Luongo has made many GREAT saves over the last 6 years, none bigger than 2010 Olympics in overtime. But that save that Schneider made tonight against Dustin Brown, will be looked back on as the turning point of this series... We haven't had a save as important, in the playoffs, since McLean in 94' against Reichel (Calgary). Lu is the best Canuck goalie stat wise but when it really counts, and the chips are down... He has failed, plain and simple (even though the contract is anything but simple). Lets hope that this is a great start to a historic come back. Cory in and Daniel back... game on! Canucks got shutout 3 times in a 7 game series, but Luongo won it for them. He was the only reason we weren't completely embarrassed by anaheim. He carried us through St. Louis. He made a huge save on a breakaway against LA the first time we played them that shifted the game and inevitably the series. He played huge in multiple games agianst Chicago, even if he had some bad games as well. He was lights out in game 7 agianst Chicago. He was huge against SJ. He was huge against Nashville. Had Vancouver not had their head up their ass offensively, there's a very, very real chance he would've won the Conn Smythe that year. It's not a homer thought, a lot of media and analysts were talking about it too. Schneider has literally played less than 15 games in the regular season this year and last put together against playofff teams. And he has a .500 record, including both some good games, and him being blown out. He has been very protected start wise, all you have to do is look at the teams he plays comapred to Luongo, and you will see Luongo has had to play the harder teams far more often than not. He is also currently .500 in his playoff career, with one pretty hideous game, a game where he played well but had one bad rebound that ended up being the GWG against, and he now has one fantastic game to his credit. He is a very promising young goalie. He's shown tons of potential, and it's so early in his career. He very well could rise to the ranks of the top 5-10 goalies in the league as a starter. But there's a lot left for him to o to be proven. He's going to have to face that hard competition in the regular season sooner or later, in mass quantity, not just a handful of games here and there. All the power to him if he's in net and plays as good as he did tonight and the Canucks get past LA, but there's a reason it's like 2% odds for a team to come back from that hole. I came to the conclusion that both are equally good, so why not ride the younger one? I don't blame anything on Luongo this year, he has been great in the first two PO-games as well. I'm glad Cory had a huge game and I hope he has a few more in him, but seriously this is going to be no different than it was with Luongo. All of you praising Schneider now were praising Luongo in his first year here, and you'll turn on Schneider too the minute he has a bad game that costs the team in the playoffs, and he eventually will. Whichever goalie stays with us, try not to run them out of town in favour of the next "goalie of the future" like Kevin Weekes. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
