What rings true through it all are two things: - They are both great goaltenders - Schnieder clearly is the better goalie this season Much as a coach will play the line that is on a roll one night, or give the player that is "in the groove" more icetime, your coach has clearly chosen the goalie he felt gave the team "the best chance to win", (he actually said that in a recent interview by the way). All of this lament about Luongo getting blame, this sentimentality, etc., is kids stuff. You do not put players on the ice for sentimental reasons, especially when a series is on the line...and nobody is placing blame on the one sitting out. He simply put his best player on the ice. He's had some real growth in this area. When things didn't go the team's way in the past, he had a hard time taking any ownership for the result. "Threw his teammates under the bus" has been a term used in the media. Again, big change there and it's good to see. Then along comes this young articulate goalie that's been drafted and developed in the system. Not only does he play well but he says all the right things. It's hard not to get behind him. Buttock Posted April 20, 2012 Share Posted April 20, 2012 Here's the bottom line, for me. I realize that the twins together are greater than the sum of their individual parts. That's been obvious since they arrived, so losing Daniel is a bigger deal than losing one star player. But that shouldn't matter if this team is really a contender for the cup. So, you say it's about morale? Well, the coach is ultimately responsible for morale. In my opinion, this team simply wasn't ready for those first two games and that's on the coach. And you can pin almost every series loss this team has suffered in recent years on Alain Vigneault getting outcoached. He is too slow to adjust and it really shows when we are playing against a team with a great playoff coach who recognizes how his team is getting beaten and how they need to play differently to beat us. Darryl Sutter is such a coach and it will be interesting to see how the Kings adjust in game 5. The boys had better be ready for anything. It is the coach's job to ensure they are ready for anything. frazzY Posted April 20, 2012 Share Posted April 20, 2012 Luongo has less than half the compete that schneids has. Schneider doesn't flop and if he goes down, he's back up instantly. Goal line stands? Schneids plants his skate against the post and keeps it there, Luongo falls back into the net and the puck trickles in.
