Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville has been fined $10,000 for public comments critical of the officiating in Game 3 of the Western Conference Quarterfinal series against the Phoenix Coyotes Tuesday night in Chicago, the National Hockey League announced today.
The fine money goes to the NHL Foundation.

At what point is someone just going to come out again after getting fined like that and just say, "You know what NHL? Give me another $10, 000. It's about time someone really stood out and said it: Fix your officiating and we won't have to complain. We're fed up with your (bleeeeeeeep). Now instead of fining us, how about you fix the real problem instead of punishing honesty?"

totally agree although i wouldnt have minded jvr in a 3 way.

What does the average coach actually make? I've wondered but never seen a number.

Coaches don't make nearly as much as players. Wouldn't be surprised if thats around 1/10th of his annual salary.

Average is probably around a mil or two. It's really hard to find the numbers if they aren't divulged by the organization since these numbers don't need to be reported anywhere but on tax forms.

It bugs me when people pull out the gold medal for an example... Luongo only had to outplay Brodeur.

Coach Q should've just hit the refs head against the glass, would've been cheaper.

You think Joel Quenneville makes 100K a year?

Remember people in Chicago called MG a whiner for complaining about reffing last post season? Of course, it wasn't over a brutal/dangerous hit, but was regarding inconsistency - the same issue that remains today.

He could have done that 4 times for the same price.

Hypocritical to say anything at all ... Considering recent events, and the fact that the Torres hit was Only borderline.

It's an annual thing for Q. Have Torres blow up one of your players, cry to the media about it.

How come Quenneville gets fined $10,000 for a comment he makes on officiating and then when Weber smashes Zetterbergs head into the boards he only gets fined $2,500?
I would think a player would get fined more.

One element the players won in the last CBA negotiation. $2500 is the maximum fine under the current CBA.

Quennville would be $7500 ahead if he would have sent one of his players out to smash the refs head into the boards and covered the fine.

I think the NHL should have paid Quenneville $10k for that performance. I thought it had epic entertainment value.

Once again the NHL is walking a PR tightrope with inconsistant fines and punishments. Does League brass really have no idea how they are perceived by the majority of media and fans alike?

I mean granted, its nice to have a "I don't care what you think" attitude...to a certain point, but when there is such a glaring problem that everyone is pointing out that you refuse to acknowledge? It boggles the mind. Shanahan taking over for Campbell was a step in the right direction and at the start of the season I really had hope that a new era in discipline had begun in the NHL. This was short lived however because apparently (it would seem) some higher ups have reigned in Shanny's punishments and now things are more or less back to where they were..or worse in some cases (I'm looking at you Philly/Pitts series).

Funny thing is, if the NHL had "fixed" its officiating and disciplinary system, Keith wouldn't be playing...

Why is he even getting fined for speaking his mind? NHL is so controlling...

Weber should have been suspended for the playoffs. His hit was a premeditated, predatory attack. The guy is a great defenseman, but an immense d-bag!

Performing WWE moves on the ice costs you $2,500.

Speaking your mind along with truth: $10,000.

NHL: priceless.

Quenneville or not, Chicago or not, the NHL really is inconsistent in penalties. So much for entitlement to opinion
It only takes one hard fought series to make a rivalry

most top end coaches like Q will make in excess of 1.5 million and have multiple bonuses. Babcock is over 2.

Not surprised he was fined... I am glad he said what he said.
