CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago’s top cop is weighing in on that savage hit taken by Blackhawks star Marian Hossa. Garry McCarthy, who was at the Game 3 playoff against the Phoenix Coyotes, said the check by Raffi Torres was “borderline criminal conduct,” according to a report by the Sun-Times’ Michael Sneed. During the first period, Torres left his feet and lowered this shoulder at Hossa’s face, sending the Blackhawks’ top regular season scorer sprawling to the ice. Hossa was taken away on a stretcher and taken to the hospital for treatment. He walked out the hospital a few hours later, but missed last night’s Game 4 loss.

Torres has been suspended indefinitely by the NHL. The Blackhawks trail the Coyotes 3-1 in the series. McCarthy, who said he was sitting a few rows behind the bench, told Sneed that Torres was “acting insane” after the hit and was “cursing the fans.” McCarthy told Sneed that Torres should be banned for life from the NHL. On Friday, in Chicago’s Little Village community, he said he had no plans to pursue the matter. “It was a terrible hit,” he said. However, he added: “I’m concerned with reducing violence in the community. Let somebody else worry about the violence on the ice.”

It was a terrible hit.I always wondered how the players that play pro hockey are not part of society or the 'community'.

How is it pro players are policed by Brendan Shanahan and the NHL and illegal actions are not judged in a court of law ?
