Unless there is a trade, the Canucks will pick at 26.

We should trade for Landeskog!!!!! but I highly doubt that will happen because he has 3 more years with the Avs. I would LOVE to see Landeskog and the Twins play together!!!!!!!

Since we won the President's trophy, the lowest we could've possibly drafted was 26th, and seeing as we didn't make the conference finals, that is where we will pick. If we didn't win the league, or the conference, then our pick would be lower.

That is correct.

Suddenly winning the division title, and presidents trophy becomes even more useless.

I did a little searching, and according to Central Scouting, the 26th ranked player is Dalton Thrower.

He plays D for the Saskatoon Blades. He's from North Van. It could be a good fit.

What's the point of drafting players with MG? They just get traded anyways.

If the Canucks fail for two more years he may not be around in the third year to trade them though.

I thought the draft pick was dependent on how you finished in the playoffs, and then your point total... meaning a first round exit = pick #22 or so...?

Yes and no.

Spots 1 through 26 are based on regular season ranking, with the exception of Edmonton who won the draft lottery.

Spots 27 and 28 are for the teams that lost in the conference finals.

The Stanley Cup finalist gets 29 and the Stanley Cup champion gets 30.

Good article on Dalton Thrower. He's a Canucks fan who models his game after Kevin Bieksa.

My choices would be Colton Sissons, Stefan Matteau or Thomas Wilson. I don't mind Dalton Thrower, I just think that these three will be solid NHLers in the future.

The toughest part of this kind of 'who do we draft' threads is not knowing who is available by the time that the Canucks pick. Plus, I don't live in a WHL town anymore so I've never seen any of these kids play.

Murray, Dumba or Forsberg when we trade Luongo, Bieksa and Raymond to Columbus for their 2nd overall pick.

Bring on the cup.

pick up some skill to replace the sedins, burrows, kesler, or someone else who might not be here in around 4 years. That, or a big D guy capable of playing in the NHL right now, at pick 26 we wont get that tho. anyone have a link to this years draft class?

For the most part, all teams do this. They trade away prospects to get veterans for play-off runs. Only in the last 20 years or so have teams adopted different philosophies on how to deal in the NHL so it can be sustained over a long period of time.

For example....the Detroit model..... Which Vancouver's management is trying to emulate. Build your talent with in. To do this you need to have really good drafting, really good player development and, when you finish Presidents cup Evey year your not gonna get allot of quality pics so you have to trade for them.

This is where the Detroit model is coming unglued. When we trade away players we need to get high draft pics, not players that maybe something in three years. So the prospects pool is wearing thin and we still don't have a cup or high draft pics......not sustainable.

My feeling is that, if we don't trade raymond, kassian, malhotra, bitz for picks that this team will fall through the ice in the next 3 years and be mired in the cellar like we were in the past for so many years.

If we are looking for sustainability, we need to bite the bulit for maybe two years of rebuilding the support cast a bit, and make another serious run. Trading hogdson was a mistake, but not cause of the missing offense. It's because we never got a high draft pic for him. How else do you get high draft pics too build with-in with, when you are consistently consistent.

With the 26th overall pick, we would be smartest to pick the best available of:
-Dalton Thrower (as stated, models his play after Bieksa, and is damn good at hitting and dropping the mitts, from Vancouver too, RD)[listed 6'0, 195lbs]
-Ludvig Bystrom (best talent to come out of Ornskoldsvik since Hedman, think defensively minded Edler, LD)[listed 6'0, 208lbs]
-Colton Sissons (Bases his game off of Kesler, not as fast but gives it his all and is solid on both ends of the ice, from North-Van, Captain of the Kelowna Rockets, C)[listed 6'1, 195lbs].

If we trade Schneider/Luongo to Tampa for the 10th Overall pick(+):
Between:
-Griffin Reinhart (Vancouver boy, big d-man, not real mean but solid physically, can play both ends of the ice, LD)[listed 6'4, 207lbs]
-Jacob Trouba (Best D-man in the US dev program, don't really know much about him though, RD)[listed 6'2 193lbs]
or, if we're lucky
-Sebastian Collberg (Some people think that he may end up being the best Swede out of the draft, skilled scorer, solid passing, RW)[listed 5'11, 176]

If we trade Schneider(+) to Columbus for the 2nd overall pick:
Between:
-Ryan Murray (very solid defenseman, compares (optimistically) to Scott Niedermayer, NHL ready, Captain of the Everett Silvertips, LD)[listed 6'1 195lbs]
-Mikhail Grigorenko (big playmaking centerman-can also play rightwing-, has an awesome shot, can play the point on the powerplay, compares (optimistically) to Malkin-but has said he wants to become his own player-, long reach and good defensively, ready for the NHL and could play a two-way game with the right supporting wingers, or come in and be a very good offensive force, C/RW)[listed 6'3.5 200lbs]
-Filip Forsberg (very good Swedish born player, great speed, hands, and shot, as well as passing, plays a solid two way game, a common comparison I have seen would be Daniel Alfredsson, might be most NHL ready player of the draft, the thought of this kid playing with Kesler or the Sedins makes me drool, he is not as physical as Landeskog but has no problem throwing the body and is strong)[listed 6'2 181lbs]
-(Wild Card if Edmonton doesn't trade down and picks Murray)-
-Nail Yakupov (there isn't enough good to be said about Nail, he is a force out on the ice, compares to a Pavel Bure Alex Ovechkin mix, great wheels, great hands, great shot -interesting fact about Nail's shot, when he shoots, there is no set point of release on his blade, this makes the shot very hard to read for goalies and the only NHL'er I'm fairly certain is known for a shot like this is Kyle Turris- he can hit hard, and is by no means afraid of going to rough areas, he is also not greedy with the puck and can be a solid playmaker, he is the most hyped prospect since Tavares, and if Edmonton takes him, be frightened, unfortunately for Nail, he is a Canucks fan destined to go to Edmonton, I feel very sorry for him)[listed 5'11 190lbs]

I've followed the draft prospects quite closely this year and this is my 1st round predictions for us. As for the 2nd round, that one's a throw down between BPA or Henrik Samuelsson/Tim Bozon.

Schneider should only be traded for a top 5 pick, otherwise Luongo might be the better option.

5th overall pick = Filip Forsberg

3rd overall pick = Ryan Murray

2nd overall pick = Mikhail Grigerenko

Hopefully we can get two first round picks this draft, and add to our prospect pool.

At 26th in this type of draft I'd draft Wilson add some more nastiness, grit, edge and toughness and can also play and be a Neil like in the future.

If I were the Canucks, I'd take Stefan Matteau with the pick.

Reminds me a lot of David Backes.

May take a while to develop but if whoever takes him is patient, it'll pay dividends.

Edler, Markstrom, Hansen, 2nd round pick 2014 to Islanders for Ryan Strome, 5th overall pick 2014

This is fairly even as well.
