Trebreh
The problem is that there are too many newer fans that don't remember the days of having poor goaltending, so they take it for granted. You have to realize that some organizations search for 10 years to find a franchise goaltender, and we could possibly have two of them. So this is not a decision that anyone should think is simple. Luongo is the proven franchise goaltender. Schneider seems like he could be one, but there's no proof yet. If management makes the wrong decision here, it could put the franchise back 10 years, that's how serious it is. IMO Luongo is the safe bet because you pretty much know what to expect from him, and he's locked in for the rest of his career. Schneider may have a higher ceiling, but there's still alot of question marks with him, and there's no guarantees with the length of his contract or his cap hit. Steve Carell
If a GM dumps a player who he only 2 years ago signed to a 12 year contract just because someone a little better came along the Canucks will never attract any big players ever again when they see that this is how seriously the organization treats their multi year offers - and by seriously I mean a big fat joke. Because at any moment, if they see someone better than you, they can just come up to you and ask you to waive your contract and take one for the team. But hey, we'll just have to accept it. Maybe next they can start trading players during games and shipping them off without letting them say goodbye to their teammates like Montreal. DeNiro
That great goaltending only took us further than Cloutier one year out of six. I think the problem is too few fans remember the great goaltending, in the 2007 playoffs. It hasn't been like that since.

cmpunk
You could also say that if the team ends up entering next season with the goalie they (organization) drafted then it feels more like this new "Detroit" version of the Canucks who develope their own players. ilduce39
I was a fan of the Canucks during the Cloutier era, I know bad goaltending and I appreciate that we now have 2 great goaltenders. But this is not a situation of fans running a goaltender out of town, its a BETTER goaltender running a an aging superstar our of town. For the betterment of the franchise, who do you keep? the young stud goaltender or a 33 yr old former elite goaltender on the downside of his career and is on a lifetime contract? If people put their emotions aside, its easy to see the answer.
SwedishCrowns
To Tampa: Luongo,Raymond,Ballard,3rd Round Pick To Vancity: Mattias Ohlund, Victor Hedman, 2nd and 5th Round Pick Getting rid of Raymond is pretty self-explanatory Ballard because he is a cap bust and a failure (besides his awesome hipcheck), he is not worth 4 mil I want Mattias Ohlund because he is a forever canuck and Has great relationship with our players and the city. I love his defensive play and has great playmaking skills. He is also offensive when you want him to be and he is physical Victor Hedman- This swede is born in the same hometown as the Sedins, Has great relationship with them. He is 6'4. Great physical player. Great replacement for Ballard which is a cap bust. I would like Stamko's to come here and I would be willing to throw in a 1st round pick but We have enough centremen and top 6 forwards, UNLESS WE GET RID OF KESLER, which is not likely at all. Lines after off season: D.Sedin,H,Sedin,Burrows, Higgins/Booth,Kesler,Jensen/Hansen Malhotra,Pahlson,Higgins/Booth/Hansen Weise,Lapiere,Hansen or someone else. Not sure D Lines: Bieksa,Hamhuis Ohlund,Edler Hedman,Tanev( or Rome/Alberts) Cory (sorry, i can't spell his last name) Lack ( he may not be NHL ready but give him the preason and play him in games vs NYI,CBJ, etc. and he will get better with our great coaching staff. I am positive that Ohlund will love to come back here. We will have a total of 7 Swedes, 8 Canadians, and 4 Americans and 2 Danishs Luongo to tampa would get us MUCH more compared if we escorted him to Florida. Florida has limited skill players and we don't REALLY need toughness. Draft picks are not the best. Tampa has much more options and it is in Florida which Luongo's family loves. I ship him out there. Ohlund and Edler would be a great pairing. If Salo decides to retire, I am happy for him but if he decides to stay around, I'd trade him. I would't put him with Hedman because Tanev is doing a great job as a young player and Sami is not as reliable. Tanev didn't get a minus in like 17 consecutive games sometime around this season. smurf47
2 years ago the Canucks brought in Rollie Melanson too work with Lou and Scneids. The results were that Lou had an amazing season after adjusting his style and had a GAA of 2.11. Unfortunately, Lou did not in the playoffs, stay with what had made him so consistant during the season ! He reverted to his old habits which were a vulnerability. This season he opted to stick with his old style while Schneider embraced Rollies system. As a result Lou had an inconsistant season, his GAA rose to 2.41 while Cory dropped to 1.96. Lou made his choice, and IMO it has cost him the starting role on this team. You live by the sword and you die by the sword !!
taib mahmud
Does it really matter to him if he moves on? He'll still earn his keeps in a different uniform and a different city. He's probably set his mind on his wife's hometown, or somewhere near. And he likely feels that he'll never wear that SC ring for as long as he's in Vancouver where he's paid his dues, adequately or not is debatable, but it all eventually comes down to being a matter of business. If the media hype continues to rattle him, he may very well ask for a trade.

Canucksftw0205
Really classy of Luongo. I will definitely be sad to see him go, he has done so much for us under so much scrutiny and pressure. That is, if he does go. As nothing about him moving has been confirmed, we can only speculate. I would be ecstatic to have Cory as our starter, but sad at the same time to see Luongo go. I hope he realizes that fans appreciate what he has done for us here. My preference would be to keep Schneider
MJDDawg
<p> With the average career in the NHL listed as 5.64 years, change should not come as a surprise. We may be experiencing a changing of the guard here . Lou has had a great run here and we do have questions as to whether Cory can play as much as Lou did. Health is the great unknown in sports and its always a bit of a crap shoot. Technically Cory will be great and hopefully his body will stand up to the rigors of NHL hockey. Lou definitely has game left in the tank and could find playing a lessor role to his liking. He would be a great overall fit for the team going forward. Time will tell how this unfolds !
