Trebreh
This could be the best trade or the worst trade for this franchise's future. Don't be so hasty with trading Luongo, he is still a vital part of this team. And has anyone stopped and asked, does Schneider even want to sign here? He's probably disgusted by the way fans treat Luongo. Do you think he really wants to play out the rest of his career in front of a bunch of ungrateful ingrates? Luongo
Don't forget that we've only been as good as we have the past two seasons because Luongo won the majority of our games. Give him a decent backup and we can be just as good. Plus he's proven that he can handle alot of games if necessary. If we keep Schneider and we can't find a backup who is good enough to play 30+ games, there's no guarantee that Schneider can handle 70+ games. It's a big gamble whether fans wanna believe it or not. There's been lots of goalies who looked like they were going to be elite (steve mason), and then fizzled out. At least Luongo has a track record that shows he can be elite consistently. smurf47
With the average career in the NHL listed as 5.64 years, change should not come as a surprise. We may be experiencing a changing of the guard here . Lou has had a great run here and we do have questions as to whether Cory can play as much as Lou did. Health is the great unknown in sports and its always a bit of a crap shoot. Technically Cory will be great and hopefully his body will stand up to the rigors of NHL hockey. Lou definitely has game left in the tank and could find playing a lessor role to his liking. He would be a great overall fit for the team going forward. Time will tell how this unfolds ! Lonny_Bohonos_14
Clearly fans here treat the goaltending position much differently. And Luongo signed his lifetime contract before things got really ugly. I don't think Schneider is the type of guy that would even wanna steal a job away from someone, let alone his mentor. You think he'd feel good about that? He'll probably make the decision easy by telling management he's prefer to go somewhere else.
DIBdaQUIB
The team needs a new energy and focus. Just like pulling a goalie half way through a game as a way to spark a team when it's not his fault the Nucks need to make some significant changes to teh current group to re-energize them and give them a new lease on the game. No one knows for sure if Lu will go and n one knows whether it is going to be a great success or a failure if he does. The owners, MG and the coaching staff will look at all the factors and make a hockey decision based on the needs of the team and the realities of the Cap. Fans need to stop blaming eachother for LU's departure IF that happens. MG isn't about to trade Lu because some fans shout "boo" instead of "Lu". DeNiro
The problem is that there are too many newer fans that don't remember the days of having poor goaltending, so they take it for granted. You have to realize that some organizations search for 10 years to find a franchise goaltender, and we could possibly have two of them. So this is not a decision that anyone should think is simple. Luongo is the proven franchise goaltender. Schneider seems like he could be one, but there's no proof yet. If management makes the wrong decision here, it could put the franchise back 10 years, that's how serious it is. IMO Luongo is the safe bet because you pretty much know what to expect from him, and he's locked in for the rest of his career. Schneider may have a higher ceiling, but there's still alot of question marks with him, and there's no guarantees with the length of his contract or his cap hit. diesel_3
So many 'haters' and 'bandwagoners' in here hoping Schneider will fail if he is the one to stay. People get WAY too emotionally attached to players on a sports team. I trust Gillis will make the right choice and go with whoever gives the Canucks the best chance to win the Stanley Cup, that, to me...Is all that matters, not players feelings. If that turns out to be either Cory Schneider or Roberto Luongo, so be it, i'm still a Canucks fan.

RGC
You don't think the relentless and ongoing skewering of Luo by the media and a certain segment of the Canucks fan base doesn't impact on him or is possibly a factor in deciding to waive his NTC??? Nobody is saying "MG is going to trade Luo because some fans should 'boo' instead of 'Lu'"..........but it may definitely be a factor in Luo's decision to remain in such an environment. goalie13
Go tell that to Martin Brodeur who has spent his entire career (19 years) with NJ Devils........who says the same couldn't happen with Luongo.

JustJokinen!
I am a Canucks fan. I always have been and I always will be no matter who the players, coaches, and management are. I can't imagine cheering for a different team. Some of you seem to be a fan of a certain player more than the team. I don't understand that.
