Do We Really Need To Change Much, Besides The Playoff Performance?

How much does the team itself need to change? It seems like we can practically sleepwalk our way to the playoffs, but once we get there, that's when the problems begin. We could change coaches and get Schneids to start instead of Lu, and I think we would go much further.

To Tampa: Luongo,Raymond,Ballard,3rd Round Pick

To Vancity: Mattias Ohlund, Victor Hedman, 2nd and 5th Round Pick

Getting rid of Raymond is pretty self-explanatory

Ballard because he is a cap bust and a failure (besides his awesome hipcheck), he is not worth 4 mil

I want Mattias Ohlund because he is a forever canuck and Has great relationship with our players and the city. I love his defensive play and has great playmaking skills. He is also offensive when you want him to be and he is physical

Victor Hedman- This swede is born in the same hometown as the Sedins, Has great relationship with them. He is 6'4. Great physical player. Great replacement for Ballard which is a cap bust.

I would like Stamko's to come here and I would be willing to throw in a 1st round pick but We have enough centremen and top 6 forwards, UNLESS WE GET RID OF KESLER, which is not likely at all.

Lines after off season:

D.Sedin,H,Sedin,Burrows,

Higgins/Booth,Kesler,Jensen/Hansen

Malhotra,Pahlson,Higgins/Booth/Hansen

Weise,Lapiere,Hansen or someone else. Not sure

D Lines:

Bieksa,Hamhuis

Ohlund,Edler

Hedman,Tanev( or Rome/Alberts)

Cory (sorry, i can't spell his last name)

Lack ( he may not be NHL ready but give him the preason and play him in games vs NYI,CBJ, etc. and he will get better with our great coaching staff.

I am positive that Ohlund will love to come back here. We will have a total of 7 Swedes, 8 Canadians, and 4 Americans and 2 Danishs

Luongo to tampa would get us MUCH more compared if we escorted him to Florida. Florida has limited skill players and we don't REALLY need toughness. Draft picks are not the best. Tampa has much more options and it is in Florida which Luongo's family loves. I ship him out there.

Ohlund and Edler would be a great pairing.

If Salo decides to retire, I am happy for him but if he decides to stay around, I'd trade him. I would't put him with Hedman because Tanev is doing a great job as a young player and Sami is not as reliable. Tanev didn't get a minus in like 17 consecutive games sometime around this season.

i would try the amex experiment again next year...burrows back with the sedins....pick up a good d-man .....trade lu for ohlund (retiring) and purcell...rw'er...move lapierre to 3rd line center with hansen.....start kassian and gragnani on the farm and get them ready for prime time....

The fact of the matter is that it is BECAUSE the Canucks are able to sleepwalk through the regular season and still get 3rd or higher in our conference that we played so terribly in the playoffs. Our division poses no true challenge to us, so most of our games feel meaningless. Our team always ends up playing DOWN to the level of the rest of our division. When the regular season ends and the playoffs start, we're so used to playing down to the people in our division that we can't step it up into that next gear to play appropriately.

I honestly think that we should attempt to get a 1st line goal scorer or a top line defenseman.

Having a solid goal scorer paired with the sedins will make that top line complete. Although I absolutely love what Burrows brings to that line, I think that it would benefit to have Burrows on the second line to give us two depth scoring lines, a shutdown line, and a grind line.

As for a top defenceman, it seems like we always have 3-4 good defensemen, 1 bubble player, and one AHLer. This year we had Salo/Edler/Hamuis/Bieksa as our top 4. Our bubble player was Tanev who played awesome when used. Ballard was out most of the season with injury, and the rest of our defense are career AHLers.

We need a top line defensemen to pair with Hamuis for a shutdown pair.

If we can get either one of those (you won't get both) for Luongo, I think we have a legitimate shot next year.

We need rest, and to get the best out of what we have next year, there is already chemistry and a lot of time invested in that room. Look at LA, and Ottawa more so Ottawa without major personnel changes but some direction and getting things together and they are complete turnarounds when no one saw it coming.

We have some of the best players in the league and possibly the best collective of players anywhere. They are not firing on all cylinders we can all blame individuals but thats not it. They played too long last season, just like Boston which is the same story, they are fighting to survive and most likely won't go past the 2nd round.

Now let them golf, relax and get a full off season training program and get them hungry again for 2012-2013

OMG!! I WISH OLLIE CAME BACK!!!!!!! He cant, hes injured, and has a 7 year deal with TB...so I HIGHLY doubt that. And people have been saying that, IF we do trade Schneids, we would get a BETTER return, than we would with Lu. I'd rather fix up the depth to help us become a better, more dangerous team, then change our goalies, our goalies werent the prob here. Like Schneids said "We (him and Lu), could be coming back together next season, we're good friends".

We coast to the playoffs cos our division sucks

We need to be awesome at 5 on 5, play hockey and stop trying to get the call.

The above requires a complete team mentality and attitude change. This is either catylized by hhe coach or assumed by our core. If the core won't do it then the core needs to be changed.

They need to change enough to be able to score goals. I'm sure MG will probably disagree, but I don't see any real point in continuing on with a core group that cannot score. The team will just hit another brick wall, not if but when they enter the Playoffs next season.

Keep Daniel and Henrik, and trade away what we can for scoring talent. Vancouver has a high enough profile to attract major talent from around the league.

Things we need to change? First we need to have only one number one goalie. If you have read the comments of both players it would just be an unwanted distraction. Players that should or could also be sent out? I would say Booth, he never really jelled with anyone on this team but does have a skill set and should get us some quality returns. Raymond, he has toooo much mental problems and he would probably do better in a U.S. market without the pressure. If we had to part with any of our current D in order to help land a bonafide elite D man then I would say that Ballard, then Rome , Alberts, Tanev are all possibles. Overall we need a top D man and a proven clutch playoff goal scorer. I loved Ohlund when he was here before but he is getting long in the tooth and would not help the team get over the hump at all.
