As A Canucks Fan Are You Happy That Boston Was Eliminated?

Recommended Posts

Let me start with Canucks above everyone else. I bleed Blue and Green. I live in Austin TX now (from Winnipeg – funny how many people have that moniker – to Ottawa and then Vancouver before the US) and with NHL Centre Ice I watch around 70 of the 82 games our Canucks play. When I was in TO last summer visiting my brother and family I of course went to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Walking on front street after I see two guys in Bruin jerseys coming towards me. Took all my strength not to push them into traffic.

I have watched all 8 first round series. The Caps/Bruins were one of the best. And when Ward put the puck behind Thomas in OT I was screaming like I do when the Canucks score. It was a great series and seeing that goon Marchand (among others) gone was fantastic.

the main reason i am happy is that there will be less focus on how the Canucks got knocked out. I mean the stanley cup champions being knocked out in the first round is huge. This just shows how hard the playoffs are. No matter what people say, we are still a good team and dont need to rebuild. A few little tweaks this off-season and we'll be back for a long run sooner rather than later :)

I'd like to say it doesn't matter, but it does. With Boston out, they join Vancouver, Chicago, Detroit, San Jose and Pittsburgh on the sidelines. Purely as a fan, I will miss seeing the skills of the Sedins, Alex Edler, Alex Burrows, Joe Thornton, Dan Boyle, Joe Pavelski, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal, Nick Lidstrom, Pavel Datsyuk, Keith Seabrook, Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Marian Hossa, and even Zdeno Chara, to say nothing of some pretty fair goalies. I can't really get excited about Phoenix, St. Louis or New Jersey. I am ambivalent about the Rangers and Washington (since Ovechkin became a fifteen minute a game defensive specialist) and guess I'd like to see Nashville win because they have built a great team with the same coach and a limited budget. Still, I really don't like what has happened to the freewheeling, offensive game we were promised after the lockout.

As much as I dislike the Bruins, Ward's OT goal could have been denied as Knuble made contact with Thomas in the crease, and had his feet firmly planted within the crease as the goal was scored.

Could have been waived off due to goalie interference / standing in the crease, but whatever.

I wasn't sure if I was going to continue watching the play-offs after the Canucks lost to L.A. I decided to watch with feined interest the Capitals-Bruins match up. I have to say, as a Canucks fan (and as a Habs fan too.....the team I grew up with as a kid) I am incredibly happy to see Boston out of the playoffs. It hurts that the Canucks are done for the season but this helped the pain a little bit by seeing the Bruins lose.

(Even though I'm not a Capitals fan, I do hope that they win the Cup this year, if only for one player. Jeff Halpern, thank you for your hospitality last year during High Holy Day services. You are a true mensch! I hope you get your name on the Cup, someday)
