theo5789
These were good deals but where were these guys when they were needed Higgins - 0 goals Lapierre - 0 goals Booth - 0 goals Ballard was pretty good
lappykass
Trading one of our core players would be a ballsy move. We should only do that for one thing and one thing only. A top D-man. It would put us over the top, and were sooooo close to being picture perfect. One top D-man and this team is a serious threat, even more so then last season and before that. Raiun
I don't know about this, the real problem imo is the offence. Canucks haven't been able to score in their last two series.
Clonedanielsedin
I don't think the team needs a big shake up but we do need a proven play maker for the 2nd line and a proven shutdown defence man. Gillis will have to move some bodies to get this done. The untouchable core in my eyes are as follows: Kesler Burrows Sedins Bieksa Schneider Anyone other than these five I would be fine parting with to attain a play making forward or a shut down d-man He said the team needs to get younger and bigger and I agree, I just hope he doesn't go too young, like Kassian again, if he wants to go for a serious cup run. The window is closing rapidly for the core so we don't need a bunch of rookies coming in.

theo5789
The way AV's system works is defense first, and opening up offensive chances via strong defensive zone play. Since our defensemen aren't always great at creating turnovers and clearing the zone properly, we sometimes lose those chances. Personally, I think AV should go. Teams are just way too familiar with his system now, and he shows no sign of mixing it up at all.

John Garret's moustache
Well in about a month or two we will be traind our 100 million dollar goalie. Is that ballsy enough? Trolling Luongo fans aside. I don't think we need to shake the core. Edler, Bieksa, and Kesler won't have a 2nd bad year. they're resting up and stewing over such embarrassing defeat. Canuck Surfer
Sundin was all about patronage or showing off. His first 2 signings were Sundin & Demitra his two biggest star players from his playing agent days. Why doesn't the Sundin move count?
nuckin_futz
like someone else said it was only a one year deal, and Gillis didn't have to make any tough choices (he had cap space so he signed him!) and the only reason some consider the move to be as you say "massive" is because of his past when in all reality he had just gotten too old
komodo1970
If by balsy you mean moving a big piece of our core, I don t believe it s necessary. Our top line is one of, if not the best, in the league. The thing they need the most is a complimentary second line to take the focus off of them. Kesler has shown his skills well in the past. I don t think he truly recovered properly from his surgery last summer. He never truly looked comfortable on the ice and now I ve heard he may have a shoulder injury. Even under these condions and missing the first month of the season he was able to put up 49 pnts. The area I noticed a significant drop off in his game was his determination to make things happen. He was, at times hesitant to get his nose dirty in front of the net and shyed away from the rough stuff. The biggest move, in my opinion, (as far as the offense is concerned) is a set up man for Kesler and Booth. Higgins worked great with them, at times, but could' t sustain the chemistry. With the right winger passing puck to them, I think they'll light it up next year. The thing I like the most about Kesler is that when he gets that intense attitude about him, he plays at his best. Obviously, Tampa bay is a preferable destination for Lou. I think Ted Purcell would be the perfect fit for Kesler and Booth. Playing with Stamkos has groomed him as a set up guy and his contract makes him an attractive possibility. Now for the defense. Although there is no doubting their talent, size is an issue. We don't have that defensive specialist that can keep the front of the net clear. I see A lot of fans wanting the high priced talents of a Weber or a Suter. Admittedly this would be amazing, but lets be realistic. Odds are Suter won't be here and Weber is, as of now, still a Nashville predator and they still hold all the cards when it comes to his rights. Even though he may not want to return to Nashville, they are still going to be wanting a hefty price for his rights and they have the right to match any offer that is made. This may be the area where your balsy move could come in. The Montreal Canadiens have a young defenseman named Jarred Tinordi. At 6'6", he definately has the size to be that guy. With the proper tutelage, he could become a force in front of Schneids. He could be that missing piece on the back end. It is my contention that blow up type moves are not necessary; only smart hockey moves that make what we have better. In other threads, I have made blow up scenarios, but thats just for fun and, obviously fantasy. In the end, I think tweaks are more necessary and will be mor productive. TimberWolf
Sometimes the players you need just are not available, or come at too high a price. Ott, for example may have crippled us by the sounds of it and free agents tend to get way overpaid.
Bodee
I don't think it is quite as simple as saying "we won't be so bad next year" We do need a game changer. We needed one this year AND we needed one last year AND we will need one next year. I am a big supporter of the personal on this team but I think apart from the Sedins and hopefully a fit Kessler we do not have a difference maker who can't simply be bullied out of the game. Kassian may be that man in 2/3 years but we shouldn't expect it too soon. I have written a tongue in cheek topic on MG "waking up with grapefruits" but seriously we need and have needed for 2 years or more a big gritty sniper and a large dominant top line D. I fear if we don't get them in the trade we may fall by the wayside again.

Unless Booth changes his style (and I believe he won't/can't) then we can have Rick Nash on that line and there will still only be 3 individuals. Quote me on it next season. We need the chemistry to be 3-way not combinations of 2s and 1s. The Amex line never lit up at any time like a Sedin line or a Lucic line and it won't until Booth starts passing when a pass will mean something to the move. He never lifts his head. grumpworsley
A goalie that can stop the puck blind folded add 4 shot blocking forwards a trap based team and a 4th line that can score your goals. and Voila boring as crap hockey and a Stanley Cup. Oh ya we can throw in the elimination of interference and hooking.
RUPERTKBD
I really hate this attitude towards the playoffs, just look at the Pittsburgh and Philly games, the Flyers worked their butts off to come back in almost all of those games and won you can't say that was all luck.br />
Geoff Peterson
One or two big Defence men and one big solid winger for a basic fix. A fourth line guy (Canadian) with a real nasty mean streak who knows how to play on the edge and has hockey skills...players found on teams like LA, Boston, Philly, and a few other teams throughout the league..."BALLS" Most of all I miss watching the Twins score goals, though the legs, blind back passes...pretty goals... All we have on "Hockey Night in America" is garbage goals, teams that look good until the goalie shows up in net, teams that if it wasn't for their goalie they don't have a team or a hope... This is the craziest CUP run ever...dam I miss Burrows...Dam! I just miss watching the Canucks.... Remember it's looking a lot like a "LA vs Rangers" final and Bettman wouldn't have it any other way.
