The players deserving of a spot will earn it, if their not ready then they won't be on the team. Simple as that. Im not convinced any of those players are anywhere close to being ready for the NHL and the only one who may be is Schroder but im only judging by what ive read.. and its not exactly like he's lighting up the ahl. He played in the playoffs for the Wolves only because Oshawa's season ended early. Jensen could do 9 games up here and then be sent back to Oshawa, although if he is really NHL ready he could play next season with us and skip the AHL altogether. In my opinion Jensen is not ready, he was injured 2 games into the Wolves playoffs, and isn't at a stage where he can take hits from grown men. I voted Schroeder because he's defensively responsible now. He could work out as a 2-way centre at the NHL level or else fill the undersized 13th forward role AV seems to like so much. Lack should be on this list, the guy is NHL ready. He's played 2 seasons now with the Wolves, he's done his time, any more games at that level may hamper his development. Phil_314 Posted May 1, 2012 Share Posted May 1, 2012 Would be great if Jensen (or Schroeder, or both ) can step in and stick with the roster, but only if they've earned themselves spots (in the Top 6) and have proven that they're ready to play and produce consistently as they'll be expected to at the high pace of the NHL as first round picks. Wouldn't want either of them (esp. not Schroeder) toiling in the bottom 6 as a checker. Hypothetical question: if you were the coach, and Jensen was ripping it up Scheifele-style (8 points in 5 preseason games) would you let him stay up in the NHL past his 9 games? Ossi Vaananen Posted May 1, 2012 Share Posted May 1, 2012 Then apparently Naslund wasn't ready to take hits from grown men, since the injury to Jensen resulted from a very similar hit to the one where Naslund was injured after being hit by Moore. Jensen is physically ready to play in the NHL. The only question would be playing against elevated competition over a whole season versus having one more year to develop confidence in his game. Sometimes when players come up and don't produce, they have a very hard time getting their game in order. Schroeder as our checking center would be a risk, but with the right wingers he's definitely got a shot. He's good defensively, and works very well off the puck, but it may be too much to have him in a more focused role like that full time in the NHL. Rodin and Sweatt are very good, but not ready for prime time yet. Connauton and Sauve both have a shot at camp to impress as well. Canucksbiggestfan Posted May 1, 2012 Share Posted May 1, 2012 Pretty much, he's developed many of our younger players, either with the Moose or the Canucks - or both. People kept saying he didn't give Hansen enough of a chance when he first came up, but he's developed just fine. Kesler, Burrows, Bieksa, Edler, etc all came up under him as well. Hodgson had to be put in ideal situations to showcase him for a deadline deal, so he wasn't going to get the same type of time the top 2 centers were. Just because he got on a streak and had a few timely goals doesn't mean he deserved more than what he got. His slump after January only solidifies that point. Detroit doesn't just put their draft picks from the last couple of years into the lineup and hope they do well. Each of their players - even their 3rd and 4th liners - spend a fair amount of time at lower levels before they get regular time in the NHL. Jimmy Howard didn't get a regular NHL start until two seasons ago, the same age as Schneider is now, even with the likes of Osgood and Conklin ahead of him. Canuck Surfer Posted May 1, 2012 Share Posted May 1, 2012 I take it your with MG; that we should start trading our asset's that have already proven they can play for younger prospects with upside ? The Canucks should add more youth and younger legs into the roster. If we want players to develop properly, they should be getting more call up time during the season. I think Schroader should have been called up for a couple of games by now, it would help his development if he got to play a couple of games in the NHL last season. Jensen right now is being touted as the canucks best prospect right now. Wouldn't you like to see him called up for a couple of games during the season to see what he's got. Jensen could really suprise and make it for a full season probably at least 9 games Connauton would be nice to see on the pp for some games as well. Rodin needs to fill out more. Hopefully his injury does not prevent from offseason training again. Lack would be nice too but no need to sit on the bench as backup. Otherwise, he'd undergo the same drill as everyone else vying for a roster spot. He who deserves it gets it. Tanev will probably play his first full season, and I can see Sauve and Connauton being called up for injuries, in that order. If one of our goalies are dealt, I can see Lack getting backup time. However, if Luongo is dealt, we don't know how Schneider will respond to playing 50+ games, and we don't know how Lack will respond to playing 20-30 games. There are a lot of question marks. Youth movement, players who can impact a game under ELCs is the way to go in the cap world. No space for a 2.5m faceoff specialist, no 2.5m to a figure skater.
