Jesus, how tall is Ramjagsingh?
Dubnyk is 6'5, and Rammer is almost a head taller than him.

He's like 6'8-6'9. Played pro basketball in Europe and High School basketball in Vancouver.

Haven't been following the new features of nhl13 closely, anyone want to update me on what to expect?

So there's GM connected, new skating features.. anything else?

Is the new skating automatic? Would we have to press or hold a button to skate backwards?

Per Wikipedia:

All modes and features from NHL 12 remain in NHL 13. The following features have been announced:

  • EA Sports Hockey IQ (AI): Makes CPU-controlled players and teammates smarter by reacting to everything on the ice, not just what they see in front of them. Skaters will be more easily able to prevent scoring opportunities. For goaltenders, Hockey IQ opens up for a lot of new different types of desperation saves as they are better able to identify "potential" scoring threats. As part of Hockey IQ, there are over five times as many strategy options in NHL 13 compared to previous titles of the current generation of the NHL series to replicate the real-life plays in the National Hockey League (NHL). According to Dean Richards, general manager of the NHL series, the development team spent more time on the AI development in NHL 13 than in the past three years combined.
  • True Performance Skating, a new skating engine based on physics, makes the player skating more dynamic and realistic with over 1,000 new animations. The engine is divided into three parts: explosiveness, top-end speed, and momentum. Explosiveness refers to how quickly a player can accelerate when gliding, being in a stationary state or how far a player can skate quickly. Top-end speed means that the players can skate as quickly as in real-life in their top speeds. Momentum is part of the physics; for example, a player skating at top speed may not turn around as quickly when carrying the puck as compared to when skating at normal speed or just gliding. Also, a player skating at top speed has his shooting and passing accuracies decreased. Momentum also means that players have a harder time recovering from mistakes. The new animations, combined with the Skill Stick features, allow for a lot of new plays and dekes that can be pulled off. True Performance Skating is taglined "Every Stride Matters".
  • Team First Presentation aims to make the in-game experience more authentic than previously. Team-specific presentations for the NHL teams have been added, and it's also possible to manually customize the experience.
  • GM Connected: Allows players to play in online Be a GM leagues with human-controlled teams. Players can keep track of what's happening in their league with a mobile app.
  • NHL Moments Live allows players to relive great moments from the 2011–12 NHL season. In addition, new moments will be uploaded as the 2012–13 NHL season progresses.
  • Hockey Ultimate Team: The design of HUT has been revamped, the reward system improved and a new playoff format for HUT has been added. New features for player-card collections have been added to make it easier to create a HUT team.
  • EA Sports Hockey League remains in the game and features like club captains and improved matchmaking have been added.

GM Connected Revealed:

EA SPORTS NHL has always been a social game for me and the game is at its best when one of my friends is on the other side of the faceoff circle. When I was in high school in Kelowna, British Columbia, playing with friends meant having to go over to someone’s house. With that being said, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that my favorite addition to NHL 13 is the GM Connected mode, a gameplay option that takes the traditional Be A GM mode and puts it online allowing gamers around the world to join together to manage teams in their own virtual NHL.

Posted Image

NHL producer Andy Agostini headed up the development of GM Connected and explained, “When we started the year we discussed what we wanted to add to the NHL franchise and thru viewing user feedback we knew that an Online Dynasty is one of the most requested features. We also knew that Be a GM is the NHL franchise’s number one most played mode. Essentially, what we’ve done is taken all the best things from Be a GM and combined them with Online Team Play the base for our popular EA SPORTS Hockey League, creating the largest online dynasty mode ever.”

Posted Image

How many people can play in a GM Connected league?

Up to 30 people can each manage their own NHL team in this multi-user NHL dynasty mode and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

With up to 30 human managed teams, the total number of players able to take part in a GM Connected league is 750. Essentially, it’s largest online dynasty mode ever in a sports game.

Five Ways to Play

1. Play against the computer

2. Play against another GM in head to head play.

3. Co-Op/Online Team Play – Have friends play with you against the computer or against another team with human-controlled players in up to 6 vs 6 action. (First time ever in a multi-user dynasty).

4. Build Your AI – New to the EA SPORTS NHL series: Control your team’s strategies with all-new systems and bias sliders. Customize and record AI sequences so that your players play your game.

· This can be set up so that a user who can’t make a game against another human controlled team will be able to let the CPU play for them with their strategies in place.

5. Coach Controls – Be the mastermind behind the bench and control your team’s strategies and line changes to help your team to victory. (A quick shoot button allows you to control when your team goes for goal.)

GM Connected: What’s your Role?

Users will be able to choose between one of three roles within the league, each one giving them a different way to experience the league:

The Commissioner

Each league will have one Commissioner. The Commissioner will also run a franchise in the league.

The Commissioner creates the league, manages the invitations to the league and confirms join requests. The Commish also sets up the schedule of when the games are to be played and how long each round is. The commissioner can set each round to represent between 3 days and 2 weeks, allowing for more or less playable games per round.

Once the league is up and running the Commissioner’s job isn’t done. He is the one in control of moving the schedule forward in the league by advancing the league and simulating any games that have not been played to the next round of games. Just like the real NHL, all trades and free agent signings also have to be approved by the league, which in GM Connected falls to the Commissioner.

The Commissioner is not all powerful. If he is abusing his power as Commissioner, the league’s GMs can vote to have him removed. The GM who initiates the vote, if successful, will then become Commissioner.

General Manager

A league can have between one and 30 General Managers, each vying to lead their team to success. As with previous GM modes in the EA SPORTS NHL series, a team’s GM is in charge of building the team via trades, free agent signings and the draft.

A GM can both be a player on his team as well as recruit up to twenty-four friends to play with him in co-op or Online Team Play.

Posted Image

Players

The role of a player is quite a bit more traditional. Marshaled by their General Manager their task is to show up at game time to play their part on the ice.

As with existing Online Team Play modes, the players in a GM Connected league can be vital in helping their team to victory, even if they’re not the ones in the boardroom making the deals. Though they might want to suggest deals if it can help them in their player role.

Staying Connected

Staying in touch with everyone in the league is important, especially with so many potential players filling out the team rosters. In GM Connected there are two different types of messaging to keep everyone in the loop.

“League News messaging is to allow people to send quick messages to the league news ‘blog’ screen. This allows people to send messages to the Commissioner, All other GMs and to players on their team,” Agostini explained via email.

Commissioners and GMs also have private mailboxes which will receive in-game emails about league activities. These activities include:

· Waiver alerts – Lets GMs know when a player is available on waivers in case they would like to claim him

· Free Agent signings – Tells GM if they have won a free agent claim

· For Commissioners it allows them to see all trades and veto or approve them which will help stop cheating in the league

· Also gives them the ability to see transactions from around the league as they happen

This messaging system will allow GMs and the Commissioner go through any actionable league related items they have, thus making it an integral part of their experience.

GM Connected Mobile App

Created specifically for GM Connected is the GM Connected Mobile App which will allow gamers to take the league with them when they leave their consoles. The app will allow them to:

· View: Team Standings, Player Stats, Schedule, Injury Report, Transactions

· Trade: Offer trades to other teams,

· Free Agents: Make offers to free agents

· Post: GMs can send messages to the Commissioner, other GMs or his team

Drafting

The Entry Draft is done though the creation of a Draft Priority List. Rather than making players sit through a long draft process we instead allow them to create a list of their draft targets before the start of the Entry Draft and allow the computer to draft for them based on the order of their picks and who remains available.

NHL 13 will have a randomize team rosters option. This will randomize the team rosters so that teams will start out relatively even. That way you can avoid arguments over who gets what team, and nobody has an automatic advantage because of the strength of the team they pick.

GM Brain - The NHL franchise’s Smartest GM/Trade Logic Ever

Both GM Connected and Be A GM also benefit from this year’s addition of GM Brain, a revamp of the NHL 13 GM AI. GM Brain causes the computer controlled GMs to act in a more realistic way than ever before. Instead of focusing just on immediate needs, GM Brain allows the AI to evaluate trades and transactions in terms of immediate, short-term and long-term goals that are best for the organization.

Stay tuned, we’ll be talking more about GM Brain in a future blog.

Andy Agostini had this to say about the mode, “We know our users always wanted an online dynasty mode but we wanted to provide something different and innovative. I believe with this mode we have done just that. All online dynasty modes have at most 32 users in it but we can have up to 750 players of all skill levels due to the ways people can play and with the roles they can have in the league. We also allow people in different places to play together against other teams or the CPU. Our goal was to create tools to have leagues run their way. If a league wants to trade users to different teams they can do that in GM Connected. If two brothers living in different cities want to play together on the same team or against each other they can do that. It has so many possibilities and with the connectivity of the mobile application it allows you to stay connected to that league 24/7 allowing people to stay engaged with the experience.

Every year as soon as I get home with my copy of NHL I start up a new career as a General Manager, and play that career through to the next year’s game is released. With GM Connected I can finally manage my team in a league against my friends around the world.

I like this.

I'm pretty sure before they said there is no fantasy draft, which I think is dumb.

Well obviously its not a fantasy draft, since we're not drafting but you will have the option to have different players on your starting roster.

Yeah I know I just don't get how they can't add a fantasy draft. If they can make it randomize teams, making a fantasy drafts available should be fine.

This is something you could run a sim league off of, so it makes sense.

One thing I'm wondering is what difficulty the computers will be in Online BeAGM.

I am hoping that it's set to Superstar, because obviously you want the best chance to win games.

too bad there's no fantasy draft in GM Connected, maybe next year.................on the other hand, I like the idea of randomized rosters, this way you can truly get 30 human controlled teams and not have vacant spots such as Columbus, Florida etc.
The randomized roster allows everyone to have an even roster, otherwise people will only want powerhouse teams such as Vancouver, Pitsburgh, New York R, Philly etc.

I'm probably the only one who doesn't care about the online BAGM lol. It sounds like a great mode, but I'd only get involved in a non-playing league (sim all of the games). I like feeling like a GM and if you play the mode like versus, it'll likely be the same person(s) winning. Great addition by EA, though.

Any additional (non- GM brain) information on BAP or BAGM?

Anyone know of any good pre-order deals in Canada that reduce the price or give you store credit?

Toys R Us in the US is selling it for $45 and the USA Amazon is giving $15 credit.

Best Buy Canada is giving $10 worth of reward points, but I'm wondering if there are any others?

Are you guys serious? Putting in a fantasy draft isn't as easy as clicking a couple buttons and programming it in. They have to figure out how potentially 30 teams will all be online at a time and how to make the draft not take 3-5 hours with 30 teams choosing about 24 players. Assuming there are 30 GM's and approx. 24 players per team, and an average of 30 seconds per pick, that ends up being a 6 hour draft...

Exactly.
A fantasy draft for Online would never work.
Plus, what are the odds you get 30 people online at a time?
It would probably take days to get through it.

One theory would be to have each team submit their draft list then the draft be conducted automatically based on that.

I rarely am able to make my Fantasy League's draft but Yahoo allows me to submit a list ahead of time. It seems to work out alright there.

Maybe EA is just saving that feature for future upgrades.

NHL 13 Be a Pro and EA SPORTS Hockey League Improvements:

In NHL 13, we approached Be a Pro and EA SPORTS Hockey League in two ways: change the way you play the game and address what the community wanted to see improved.

The biggest change you’ll see with both modes this year is how your AI teammates play around you. We spent more time working on AI this year than across the past three years combined. The result is EA SPORTS Hockey I.Q., a completely overhauled A.I. system where players are now fully aware of every other player on the ice, resulting in quicker, smarter and more true-to-life decision-making. It also delivers the deepest and most customizable set of real-world hockey systems and strategies ever for the franchise.

The introduction of EA SPORTS Hockey I.Q. into Be a Pro and EA SPORTS Hockey League means smarter teammates and a better gameplay experience for you. Let’s dig into the community requested improvements that we made.

Posted Image

Be a Pro Improvements

NHL 12 introduced Be a Pro Revamped which gave you the option to start your career in the CHL and forced you to earn your ice time. The better you played, the more time on the ice you’d receive. This was all made possible by the EA SPORTS Action Tracker which tracked your performance and allowed you to sim to your next shift, drastically decreasing the time you spend waiting on the bench for your player’s next shift. All-new coach tasks were introduced as you worked to progress through 18 career levels to take your pro to the top.

In NHL 13 we’re building upon the success of Be a Pro Revamped with the addition of some of the EA SPORTSNHL community’s most frequently requested features:

Trading

· Users can now request trades from their NHL Teams (requested on My Game Idea)

· If a user requests a trade they will be placed on the trade block if they are of high enough trade value.

· If the user does not meet the trade value requirement the user will be warned for requesting a trade and not being good enough.

EA SPORTS Hockey League Improvements

Regional Matchmaking:

In NHL 13 we have revamped some of our matchmaking parameters to help find closer matches in skill and location. When creating a club or while in the GM Settings screen, the user has the option to set their Club Region to best suit their current location. We will also show you which region is recommended by pinging all three of our game host centers to determine which is closest to you by the response times received. Since we now only match within the region you’ve selected, we increased the search timers to a maximum of 4 minutes to help find a closer skilled team with a similar number of players within your region. We do have the ability to adjust some of these depending on community response from different regions.

6-Player Leaderboards:

One of the most requested EASHL features on the EA forums has made it into NHL 13. We now track 6-player club games on their own leaderboards alongside the other leaderboards that are currently in-game. Not only will everyone know who the top 6-player club is during the season, but we will also be giving out in game awards to the top 6-player club and the clubs that finish within the top 10 and top 100 respectively. To qualify for the 6-player club leaderboards you must start and finish the game with 6 players on your team. The team you match up with does not have to have 6 players, however if you attempt to drop players when losing, you will still be ranked on the 6-player leaderboard with the loss.

Performance Points Multiplier:

To encourage teams to play with more human players, we have adjusted the performance points multiplier to be determined by the number of human players on your team. A two player team will always receive a multiplier of one, whereas a 6-player team would receive an approximate multiplier of 1.6. For example, if a team had 25 performance points, and was playing with 6 players, their total performance points would be 40. The multiplier value can be tuned server side if the community finds that it is becoming too unbalanced.

Club Captains:

In NHL 13, you will be able to assign captains and alternate captains to players in your club. Club GMs will have the ability to assign one captain and up to two alternates, or no captain and up to three alternates from the Club Roster screen. Captains and alternates will display C’s and A’s respectively in gameplay, however goalies will not have a C or A on their jerseys.

Club Matchmaking Settings Saved to Server:

Regular Season and Playoff Captain’s Options settings can now be saved in the GM Settings screen and will be automatically loaded when you enter the Club Dressing room. Players are still able to modify the search options from within the dressing room; however, they will only be saved from the GM Settings screen.

Club Join Request changes:

The naming of Public and Private club options have been changed slightly to better include the addition of the GM Friends option. Public/Private club is now called “Auto Join Club” [Yes/No] but it also has an option to only allow GM Friends to be able to auto join. A similar option exists in the “Accepting Join Requests” option where you can set it to GM Friends Only to only allow join request from friends.

Back-out Penalty:

Over the years we have read posts about teams cherry picking their opponents, and ducking teams when they are not the home team. Users have mentioned that nothing is more frustrating than winning an Elite Championship the month before and having half the teams quit out on you once they realize this in game.

We feel that with the matchmaking improvements we have done, there should be no reason to back-out on your opponents in NHL 13. The back-out penalty is intended to punish the quitting team whether they quit from the Side Select or prior to the one minute mark in game. Anything after the one minute mark of game is tracked as a Did Not Finish (DNF) Loss so there is no need for additional punishment.

Consecutive back-outs are able to stack, and the punishment results in a deduction of rank points upon the next completed regular season game if it results in a win. DNF losses post 1 min mark, and Playoff games will carry any back-out penalties to the next game. Side Select and Pre-Game back-outs can be weighted differently and we can choose to implement a grace number of back-outs before the penalty would apply. Penalty amounts per back-out, Max penalty amount, and free back-out amounts can all be adjusted server side per back-out type.
