Brockbuster
This has happened in the past but the league passed a by-law 2 years ago killing these type of deals. Coaches can't be traded for players or any considerations.

Canuck Surfer
AV crafted a Presidents trophy season by rotating players & strategies even when all 4 of his key players from last year (Lou, Kess & the Twins) had subpar year against expectations. It suggests that the coach contributes to our ability to win more than people think? If you feel that the Canucks deserve compensation for the head coach that they're supposedly about to fire, then doesn't it stand to reason that that coach is good enough not to be fired? jcroams
As time goes by with no word about AV and with Montreal seeming to want AV it is beginning to appear that AV may be in Montreal next year. However, AV is still under contract and if Montreal does want him there is nothing to say the Canucks cannot be compensated for letting him go. Would Montreal be willing to give up say a 2nd Round Draft Pick for the rights to talk to him and sign him? I think they might.
Nordiques_fan
I believe that the only coach ever traded was Michel Beegeron from the Nordiques. He was traded for a 1st round pick + 75,000$ to NY Rangers. Late 80's I think.

Nuckswillwinitall
I've never heard of this happening in the NHL. It happened just last year in MLB though, Ozzie Guillen was traded to the Marlins from the White Sox. I can't remember what for.

naslund.is.king
If we get rid of both AV and Luongo, this franchise will do a nose dive. Why people want to run the most prolific winners in our teams history, out of town, is beyond me. Some of you make me sick, and embarrassed to be Canucks fans. canuckelhead70
Yes AV has been silent and is more then likely waiting for MG to have the talk x2. It would be difficult to see ownership breaking up the coach and GM when it appears we are still in a window to win. I look for AV to get a 3 year extention. If you're not going to give him an extention then you might as well explore your options. Remember no one has said Montreal is calling. It's not like Mac t is a God behind the bench 301-252-47-56. AV is 50 games over .500 in the last 2 years alone.

nucklebucker
Does anyone actually think there is a better coach on the market that could replace AV? Gillis has made it clear he wants to stick with AV but cannot commit without first speaking with ownership. If AV is fired I seriously question the judgement of the Canuck's ownership. AV is one of the best coaches in the NHL and has this team playing the best hockey they've ever played. Firing AV would be a band-aide solution that ignores the underlying causes to why the Canucks "struggled" last season by only winning a second consecutive president's trophy. 1) Who could possibly replace AV and what he brings to the team? 2) MacTavish is nowhere near as good of a coach as AV. 3) There are plenty of holes in the Canucks roster that need to be filled before coaching can be blamed for the teams "poor" performance. - Raymond practically non-existent after returning from his injury - Kassian not NHL ready and grossly underperformed - Sedins in addition to Daniel's concussion both hugely underperformed - Kesler did not return from his injury at 100% and appeared to be struggling with injuries for most of the season - Bieksa seemed to be playing injured for most of the season - Booth got injured just when he started to find his stride and underperformed upon his return - Higgins always performed but injuries kept him sidelined and occasionally off his game - Malhotra non-existent thisseason and a major detraction from the 4th line - Salo faced several injuries and was having trouble down the stretch - Edler had the worst playoff performance of his career - Hodgson off-ice attitude greatly detracted from on ice-performance and relationship with team - Lack of a consistent 4th line due to injuries
UFCanuck
AV for Dan Bylsma. Bowness and Mactavish for Trotz. Newell Brown for rights to Dave Tippet. Then Who needs Weber, Parise and Suter. TwinTelepathy
Well would you do any better if your put on the hot seat because fans and media are complaining that if you can't speak French from day you took the job and not what you can do to help the team. If A.V couldn't speak french, Montreal wouldn't even look at him period.
