Canuck Surfer
It does seem a pointless thread. If we take on Suter, it becomes even more likely we have to shed the salary cap attributed to Luongo. And acquiring Weber, probably requires a 3 way trade giving up our best asset, presumeably Scheider + a serviceable defender (Edler?) and a pic. And then dumping salary next year to retain Weber. So neither creates a foregone conclusion because of how the realities of acquiring each. As for keeping Lou? He's second on my list behind Schneider but ahead of virtually any other alternative. I don't see a problem keeping Lou. My observation is his bouts of pouting, which contributed to play off meltdowns, seem finally to have dissapeared. No more refusing to stay on the bench when Corey starts (Chicago game 6 13 months ago), worrying over who's tire's are being pumped... I think Lou matured substantially after dealing with the scrutiny of the SCF loss. He's fine! As to the core? Well, I believe kesler / twins deserves at least one more crack! I do believe at least one surprising trade will occur involving someone like Burrows or Edler in addition to a goalie being sacrificed. We have at least two major issues outstanding recquiring probably 3 key players. A big D, a puck moving D to upgrade our D & a winger for the Twins. I am one who believes the Twins need a RW who does what Burrows does + adds size to equalize match ups issues. One of these items could come from prospects, one from a goalie trade, but if we're at the cap the last has to come by trade. Something will give... What happens then? It's unlikely that we pick up Suter or Weber, and it would mean that Schneider is dealt. I see one or more of the following happening: - Media scrutiny is at an all-time high (if even possible), which probably will set off an even more bipolar love-hate relationship between fans and Luongo - Schneider dealt for Bottom - 6 forward and bottom pairing D or a Top-4 D - Luongo leads team to Cup (No reason he can't, he took us to the Semis in 06-07 with half the team we have now) It kinda seems a pointless thread... Maybe it is. But I'm wondering what would happen, since everyone seems to think now that Luongo is on his way out. What if he stays and the management decides to actually pick the goalie that's proven, seems to have improved his attitude and has better playoff stats than CS over more games? Does this team win with the current core? Does it even matter who's in net? I don't think we've discussed it much (I haven't been on CDC much lately so maybe I'm badly wrong), but I think this is worth a talk. Imagine the controversy. The guy who offers to waive the NTC if asked for a younger goalie virtually demanding a starter job stays in favor of the latter. I for one think that would be a better situation. Thoughts? Canucks_fo_life
If Luongo stays, we have a much better chance at a cup, cause Schneider will bring us back a better return. We dont even know if Schneider can handle 60+ games, and we're screwed if he falls flat on his face, bigtime.
Special Ed
Makes more sense to me that schneider gets dealt. I would like to get the biggest return for either goalie and also happy keeping eithe. Win-win situation. MG cant screw it up, just sell to the highest bidder.
mj vic
If Cory's trade value is higher is he not the better goalie? Is he not the goalie with more potential? Is he not the goalie that has more years of top level play left in him? I find it crazy when Lou fans say we should trade the goalie that will get us more in a trade "Cory". If other teams want him more should we not want him more?
uber_pwnzor
Schneider will not be traded for Weber or Suter. Nashville do not need a goalie. They've got Rinne and Lindmark...
cmpunk
Regardless of who is a better goalie, Schneiders trade value is higher. I would love to get something sweet in return for Schneider and keep Lu.

Sugar baby watermelon
I am a huge Luongo fan, and if he stays or goes, I still support him. It seems the fandom/media here is just too much for any person to handle, even Schneids admitted to this. Luongo has been pretty class and not blown up a la Jeff Carter or Mike Richards sans Philly, and has pretty much said the right things going forward. If we go with Schneids I would be just as happy, but if Lou leaves, one chapter ends and another begins, and then we will have the Schneiderman media circus come to town. DownUndaCanuck
Luongo > Schneider overall. Schneider will be lucky if he's anywhere near the goalie Luongo is right now, and I don't want to take that risk. 50 regular season games is still unproven to me - he's a kid. Luongo is a professional.
krazysl
The thing about playoff stats that really sticks out for me is the GP portion, schneider only has 4, his stats could be 1.000 sv and 0.00 GA but that could change in a hurry. Please dont compare play off stats anymore. The point is Schneider is unproven, I am happy with either goalie next year but would rather Lou with schneider envolved in a big trade, then Schneider with a mediocre trade for lou. Standing_Tall#37
We must not forget that new jersey is only 8 wins away from needing a new franchise goalie....broduer-Lou...same cap hit??? Go Devils!!!!!( even if it serves no other purpose then to drive up the price between the one or 2 teams genuinely interested)
Airjasper
If Luongo stays then expect him to be the most scrutinized player in all of hockey... Lu is one of my favorite Canuck's of all time and i've always backed and defended him. But even I can see it's time for the organization and Luongo himself to just move on...And as much as I love him and will be incredibly sad to see him move to another team, we DON'T want to lose Schneider. He is going to be a perennial Vezina contender. The kid is a star talent in net. People say "he isn't proven"...He made 33 appearances last season which is a large sample for a backup. Remember, when he took over as starter with Lu out is when the team finally started winning on a consistent basis. He also came in time after time when the team lost 2 in a row with Lu in net to halt it. Over last season he had the 3rd best gaa in the league and 2nd best save %...Heck, he had the 3rd best save % in the history of the league! He also played in a few of the biggest regular season games for Vancouver. There wasn't a more pressure filled regular season game then against Boston, and he won it. Add on to that with the Canucks playoff lives on the line he allowed 1 regulation goal in 3 straight games. To me, there isn't a risk at all in this kid turning out. Heretic
He'll get dealt. The damage has been done. We chose to go with Schneider in the most important games facing elimination and Luongo will not be able to live with that. It's probably why he said he'd wave his NTC if asked to. tjkaemingh
One will go. Either way the Canucks should hopefully improve with the trade assets in return. We can debate all day long of who it should be. Both have pros and cons. Most CDC poster put their personal feelings into it. Lets hope GMMG can get the best business deal done. I am comfortable with either goalie in net. Was nice to have both but not possible now. Can't have that much "trade value asset" sitting on the pine as a back up. I prefer Schneider in net right now. Less dramatic, more calm and solid. But CS would get you the better return. Win/win (or lose/lose pending how you look at it!) Lets hope Lack is ready for 20 NHL games.....
Provost
I think Luongo is the better and more proven goalie... but I think the chance of him staying are remarkably remote at this point. The fans and media would be all over him from day 1 of the season questioning the decision to keep him. He always starts slow, so just picture us going 0-3 in our first few games and him getting booed from his own fans every time he touches the puck. It would become untenable really quickly and that is not the sort of drama you need when trying to win hockey games.
Trelane42
I'd guess there's only 10% chance that Schneider goes. Really curious what the difference in return would be. Maybe in 10 years from know someone from the Nucks will reveal what offers were/will be there this summer, and we can properly toast MG's mad trading skills or lament his incompetence. Pivotal trade coming up either way--will define the franchise for better part of a decade
Max-a-Million
You are all missing the boat here. What we need more than defence is goal scoring. With Kessler out for 6 months (and probably in decline) we need a good second line center. Schneids has more trade value. Both Goalies are excellent but Luongo has a proven track record while Schneids is in the beginning of his Career. Keeping Luongo makes more sense long term and trading Schneids for a top 6 center will ensure, on the return of Kessler that we have goal potential moving in the SCF in 2013. I'm prepared to lay a cool 6 pack that Luongo starts the season with Lack as back up. Any takers?
