If we Schultz then we should also sign a solid defenseman like a Brad Stuart or a Bryan Allen.

He's not unlikely. For all we know, Hamhius is probably sending him and Weber text msgs on how great this team is, and why he should join the VAncouver Canucks. I'm not joking, and it's not like we don't have leverage. We are one of the best teams, and Suter on a offensive team, he can put up over 50 points for us no problem.

I watched him play on the Westside Warriors and he was incredible, I hope we can sign him. Isn't Vancouver his favorite team anyway?

I agree as to why Suter is unlikely. I think the only thing unlikely about it, is how much we are willing to compete for him.

Their's no doubt in my mind that this summer we will give Suter a legitimate offer to play for us. Will he accept? Who knows.

First off when you make a post like this one do you even look at the Canucks cap? To add another defenseman one would have to leave. Is Salo retiring? Is Gillis trading away a Dman for a pick or picks? Nope, so until such an annoucement is made I guess this is pointless.

Here is a potential line-up with Suter. It's being assumed that Suter has a front-loaded contract which permits a somewhat lower cap hit. This line up also assumes Luongo is traded to TB. Ballard has also been moved, for cap reasons.

For the following year's UFA/RFA signings, there's over $10 million in free space (current free cap space, plus amounts from Garon, Malhotra, Salo, Alberts, Volpatti, Bitz and Ebbett assuming these were not offered a new contract).

FORWARDS
Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($2.000m)
David Booth ($4.250m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Teddy Purcell ($2.363m)
Chris Higgins ($1.900m) / Manny Malhotra ($2.500m) / Jannik Hansen ($1.350m)
Aaron Volpatti ($0.650m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / Byron Bitz ($0.700m)
Andrew Ebbett ($0.550m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Ryan Suter ($6.500m) / Alexander Edler ($3.250m)
Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m) / Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m)
Sami Salo ($2.000m) / Chris Tanev ($0.900m)
Andrew Alberts ($1.225m) / Marc-Andre Gragnani ($0.650m)
GOALTENDERS
Cory Schneider ($3.500m)
Mathieu Garon ($1.300m)

(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,887,500; BONUSES: $0
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $1,412,500

Don't forget that next years problem will have to come into play in MG's decision making this as well, burr's contract is up next season and we'll need more room for that so if MG can pick up a good Dman like Schultz to develop for the future with not losing a lot of cap space then i'm sure he'd do it. I think we all know that MG is planning for the future too so i'm not sure he'd go dumping guys who are on 2 way contracts just to open a bit of cap space for big name players like Suter unless it's a package deal. Good thing about MG is that he won't go dealing depth unless he gets something in return to make up for it.

NHL posted an article today about him where he clearly states that wherever he goes, he wants to play there for the rest of his career/retire there because of his family, having more kids, ect. He is 27... rest of his career is about a +/-10 year contract. And he is definitely going to do an NCT that he will not be waiving later. You guys think Vancouver is going to sign anyone to that kind of contract again? And with what money? I really doubt it.

I'll be happy to eat these words if Suter comes here but people have to stop with the thinking that every superstar/star/borderline star that is UFA wants to sign here. I know we are a contender and I know it's a great place to live but there are other teams that have that too. Suter will remain a Predator or will be a Red Wing by noon on July 1. Likely the later. Again, happy to be proven otherwise but there is such a fixation that all the superstars will come here it's crazy.

Putting aside the thread hijack, I don't know much about Shultz but it sounds like he could be a solid pick up - our prospect cupboard is pretty thin so would gladly take him. Can never have too many D prospects! Or any prospects for that matter...

Suter isn't the Predator coming here. It's Weber.

MARK MY WORDS! MARK THEM!!

Consider that Shea Weber has various ties to this city besides growing up 500 kms away.

Dan Hamhuis is a personal friend of Weber's and has been for eight years. In Nashville.

Roberto Luongo is a friend from the Olympics. Two years.

He knows that with his leadership he can anchor Vancouver's blueline.

Shea Weber to Vancouver

Alexander Edler, Sammi Pahlsson, and Mason Raymond to Nashville

The other players will immediately reap the reward. Here's the amazing line-up post trade.

We also pick up Cam Fowler from free agency.

Dan Hamhuis - Shea Weber That's a top pairing!

Keith Ballard - Kevin Bieksa A combination of speed and tenacity.

Cam Fowler - Sami Salo/Chris Tanev/MAG

We trade to find a balanced and explosive defence that will have the luxury of an elite goalie behind them. Both are Luongo and Schneider could flourish behind this defense. Management owes the goaltenders this much.

The Canucks could also offer up David Booth and Andrew Alberts in a trade for for Jordan Stall moving Ryan Kesler to his natural position.

I may be crazy, I may have an issue with my font control, but one thing I know is that my trade scenario will pay off big time. And it's realistic.

why would Nashville want Pahlsson? he is a UFA. So you are a saying that Alex Edler (signed for 1 more year) + May Ray (RFA) + Sammi Pahlsson (UFA) will get the Canucks the best Dman in the league (Arguably).

So after a year they will be in the same place with Edler as with Weber having to sign a UFA Dman, lets say they even want May Ray (Rights), they could probably have them for a 3rd rounder, and lets say they are super keen on Pahlsson, why not wait till July 1st and sign him as a UFA?

I'm sorry I think you may indeed be crazy and your scenario is anything but realistic.

I think that Schultz will be a bust or a sub-par player compared to his hyped potebtial.

I still think that we should try to sign him though.

Remember reading Schultz was the reason Anaheim was fine with trading Gardiner... Kinda backfired on them.

Well if he's like Gardiner NO THANKS. Don't need some piece of crap Maple Leaf like player on our blueline. I don't believe Gardiner is that good outside of braindead Torontonian's and I don't think Shultz is anything to write home about either. Last 2 players I remember hearing similar things about were Brunnstrom and Bozek, both duds.

And honestly ... If someone can post stats about him. How hard is it to load a goolge window, type in the players name, followed by the word stats. If you're going create the post do the basic work.

http://www.hockeydb.....php?pid=113177

He's a point per game player at the college lever with Wisconsin over the last couple years. Not bad but nothing to write home about. We already have Tanev, can't see this kid beating him out.

Last time you checked must have been 2006 because the Canucks have been top 5 in G/G for the last three seasons.

There's absolutely no way Suter will get to July 1 unsigned. It'll be the Ehrhoff situation, and MG won't trade assets for negotiating rights.
