Cops: Man Carrying $5,000 Refuses To Pay $12 Cab Fare:

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Police say a New York man who refused to pay a $12 taxi fare was carrying more than $5,000 when the cabbie drove him around looking for cheap cigarettes.

When the man had the cabbie take him to a third store, the driver asked for the $12.40 fare. The passenger refused to pay and told the cabbie to call police over the issue.

According to the newspaper, the arrest report says the man became uncooperative. Police handcuffed him and searched his pockets, finding more than $5,000 in cash.

The man is now charged with theft of services.

That's going to cost him more than $12.50.

There's no logic in that.

Why did the guy ask the cabbie to call the cops?

The best way to have lots of money is to not pay for stuff.

Rich folks are notoriously difficult to get money out of.

Unless he's a tourist (a stoopid one) anyone with that sort of cash on them is probably up to no good.

This crap has got be be frustrating on cab drivers world wide.

Every once in awhile you see on the news of a cabbie running someone over who bailed on paying the fare.

I can't say I wouldn't do the same thing myself..

Why does the $5000 cash matter?

Dont most of us have credit limits around that or higher? Same thing.

You think carrying around plastic is the same as carrying a huge wad of cash in your pocket? Credit cards were invented decades ago. Nobody carries hard cash around anymore....

And before credit cards, it was all about cheques.

$5000 - $5000 worth in drugs = $0 left for cap fare.
