Garrison will get more than 4 mill per year on his next contract.

If MG can sign Garrison Ballard will be gone.

Sounds like a good trade off to me. Garrison can actually QB a PP which is something we desperately need.

And there should actually be a good market for Ballard this summer since the free agent defenceman pool is very weak this year.

I still think Suter should be our primary target first and foremost though. He's exactly what this team needs.

@ThomasDrance: On Garrison re-signing in Florida, the Panthers have ~15 million in cap space tied up in just three defenseman (Jovo, Campbell, Gudbranson).

This is a key point. They still have to re-sign Kulikov, which leaves them a pretty expensive top-4. The total will be higher then ours, and they're definitely not a team who will spend to the cap.

Do they really want to shell out 4+ on a 5th guy? Especially if he wants a long term (5 years)? They have a few other young guys who should be ready at a shot soon.

Then again, do we want to shell out 4+ for 5 years? Is Garrison the answer?

I'd rather have Gudbranson, but Garrison would bring more to our team right now. If he's interested in a reasonable deal to get term and come home to play, he's worth moving some pieces around for.

He'd be a great replacement for Salo's bomb from the point.

Id hate to be a goalie with the Sedins feeding passes to Edler and Garrison teeing them up from the point.

He'd be a nice addition. Not a guy I'd like us to throw a huge contract at though. He has a huge slap shot, which would be lethal on our power play especially with 2 of the best playmakers in the league on the ice with him.

He is left handed, but plays the right side. Those guys a pretty valuable if you ask me.

Good luck getting him. Garrison is the much cheaper and more realistic option.

I don't know much about Garrison, but from what I've read here it sounds like he'd be a great addition. He shouldn't be another "Ballard" because he plays on the right side, despite having a left-handed shot. He can take over Salo's position with Edler, allowing us to roll two very solid defence pairings.

Looking at Garrison's stats he is a physical shot blocking machine and plays big minutes against big players in all situations. In a limited sample of 4 playoff games he had 3 points (1G, 2A), 12 hits, and averaged 25:11, all the while being their 2nd best penalty killer on defence (time-wise) and getting a good chunk of power play time.

Aside from what you guys have said and deductions I can make from his statistics I have no idea how well he actually plays. Anyone with solid insight?

Coming off a career season I'd definitely not be willing to offer more than 3.5 /2 years. Also contingent on getting rid of ballard and not being able to Suter

If we sign him to 3m+ we would have the most expensive defence in the leauge lol.

Hopefully MG doesnt go crazy and offer him money he wont live up to (ehem Bieksa,Malhotra) because he had a breakout year last season.

If Garrison signs for around 2.75-3 million then that would be a good deal, if it is any higher then I would rather not sign him.

So you'd only offer a defenseman entering his prime 2 or 3 years? Good luck with that.

this could work out nice but only if:

1) Salo retires

2) Ballard is traded

strong guy with huge shot would take Salo's spot on powerplay and he is capable of playing top 4 minutes. Not to mention that he really wants to play here, i dont think you can say no to a guy like that.

So did Ehrhoff...

Okay, he had a couple good years, but that will just mean Garrison's value will be lower because of the fact that he has only had 1 good year.

16 goals is pretty impressive, and you gotta think that on a top 5 PP unit like the Canucks, he can put up more. Bottom line is, our PP needs fixing and this guy is a very realistic option.

It's time to start bringing home the BC boys that have dreamed to play for the Canucks. That can go a long way.

Good article: http://canucksarmy.c...uld-be-a-thrill

Anyone have the audio? His comments are interesting, he must be throwing out feelers to Van?

I didn't realize he played on the right side this whole season - not many guys can play on their offside and put up the kind of underlying numbers he did. He's highly versatile: can play on his offside, can play a shut down role, can play an offensive role, drives play, physical, shot blocker, can play on PP and PK. Basically he'd be, by far, the Canucks most versatile d-man - somewhere AV is drooling.

Bob McKenzie created a list of the most sought after UFA d-men this summer according to NHL GM's, Garrison was near the top. Therefore, he could get lots of $$ in FA - but he'd have to take a pay cut to play in Van ($3M - $3.5M). They'd have to get rid of Ballards/Alberts contracts (clearing up $5.425M of cap space) - basically, he'd make both of them redundant.

2012-13 roster ($21M) would be cheaper than 2011-12 roster ($22M) - thus leaving room to re-up Edler next yr:
Hamhuis- Bieksa
Edler- Garrison ($3.5M)
Grags ($1.1M)- Tanev
Rome ($1.225M) - Salo ($1.75M)

That's a dangerous d-men roster.
