"Canucks GM Mike Gillis joined BMac and Taylor Thursday afternoon on TEAM1040, discussing a number of Canucks-related topics.

Gillis says he’s been talking to Alain Vigneault about the club’s plans going forward, but is in no hurry to announce anything related to Vigneault’s job safety or regarding a rumoured extension for Vigneault.
He also talked with Roberto Luongo today (Thursday), but Gillis chose not to comment on whether he’s making progress towards moving Luongo.

Gillis also commented on David Booth, who’s been in the news due to his bear-hunting excursion in Alberta, on the NHL playoffs to this date, and gave his thoughts on certain proposals that may or may not improve the game of hockey."

that goof probably got his ideas from lisetning to team 1040s riveting and endless discussion about all things david booth..
honest to god, theyve been molesting the david bpoth hunting story for three days now morning noon and night. im not surprised but its pretty friggin pathetic.. i realize it involves and athlete who plays for our city, but for sports radio they sure are reaching sooner for a "nonissue" of a story than talking sports.

Although Gillis did not make much comment on the Booth situation I took it from the tone in his voice he was not too happy with the way David Booth handled the situation. Then again you didn't get a lot out of what Gillis said. You have to read between the lines.

What is everyone's deal with this Booth/bear thing, I thought it was awesome. It's not like there's any shortage of black bears, they're everywhere. I say, it was a better shot than any he took this playoffs, zing!

What did you want him to say? The Season has just finished and unlike a lot of people on here he doesn't see the need to rush into talking about changes.

Unlike us he lives in the real (hockey) world.

The thing about MG is he seems to like and respect all his players.

I get the impression that they are vetted for good character right from the start. Because of that you got the impression he felt Booth had let himself down.........not because he hunts or kills bears but because he didn't realise that everybody, including sections of the media wouldn't all join in and condone his kill (or the publishing of it.)

On AV:

Ah well Alain and I have been ahh meeting the last couple of days and we have ahh (cough cough) a lot of things to discuss over the last couple of years about umm where we are headed and how we work together and how we view the world of hockey, and umm.
You know its a process that you have to go through and ensure that, that we all feel the same way about where we are as a team and an organization and the steps that we need to take in order to ummm, compete for the stanley cup again. And That isn't something that is, you know, happens in a moment or an instant, it takes a little bit of time and often it takes getting into the clear light of day
you know everyone is very emotional when seasons end. Players are emotional, coaching staff, owners, us, everyone is ummm, is kind of you know, not in a position to really make great judgments about a lot of things that are important things. I firmly believe that ahh you just take your time and look at it, umm, clearly and thoughtfully and you will get to the right conclusion and I, I am never gonna change that so I know sometimes it doesn't happen on a schedule that people want, or they want to interpret something into it, that is just me and the way I do things. And I ummm, I don't feel any kind of pressure to act differently. I think that if you eliminate opportunities to make mistakes your better off and I would like to try to do that.

Now, most of you readers will already know I, Primal, want to see AV gone, but these are the verbatim words out of MG's mouth. It is not 'reading too much into it" to read his exact words, and frankly, I see a phrase or two there that confirms my thoughts about MG and AV not being on the same page regarding coaching use of players provided by the GM.

I think losing the first round series with his healthy starting goalie on the bench might be the end of AV's tenure in Vancouver. Call it the straw that broke the back of his tenure.

Pessimist sounds more like it, but your honest in that its your opinion.

Where do you get any logic in that being a back breaker? MG kept Schneider for a reason. And no evaluation of the play off series against L.A could fault any play by Schneider. 3 games played, 4 goals against equalling a .960 save % and 1.31 GAA.

Conversation might more have gone something like;

How come you did not play big bad Kassian, you wanted a bigger player to compete against big line ups Alain?
Cuz he was out of shape Mike! I'm teasing here, but...

Now, throwing in my opinion (not even speculation by others), is it would be about how to get better. I do believe AV would have singled out match up problems.

L.A was the biggest team by weight in the league if I remember right. Boston clearly overpowered us physically. What do we do to retain our talent and balance these match ups? Having traded Hodgson, Kesler would have had to, and will have to score again. I believe in playing Kesler who (cough, will not be injury prone) with superb passer Danny and Booth because the line could score, stand up physically and play two way hockey against top match ups. Let Hank create secondary scoring, which he will with whomever he plays with. I suggest Burrows and an in shape Kassian or re-signed Bitz, Jensen a lower possibility. Those lines stack up physically and talent wise, where the Twins and Burr have sublime skills but get beat up. Then two defensive lines on the third and 4th. (Higgins, ??? Gaustad, Hansen / Lapierre, Manny, Pinnizotto). Those lines easily revert to Twins wi Burrows wi Amex against small lineups. AV would have to have also asked for a big right side D somewhere in the conversation?

But bottom line is AV and MG are probably discussing commonalities of philosophy to move forward or...

AV just wants out to coach Montreal?
