shawn antoski
2013 free agency period is going to be a tough one for Gillis, even more so then 2009. MG has to resign role players that are very important to this team, Burrows Lappy ,Higgins and some prospects in Schroeder, Tanev as well as his 2 young goalies , Schneider and Lack. I think all 7 players should stay with the team. Gillis said on day 1, when he took this job that he was going to build the franchise from within. So he has to be very careful this year in who he signs as a UFA or goes after in the Luongo(maybe schneider) trade. Heres what i think the 2013 roster should look like, FORWARDS Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / -----------------Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) /------------------ David Booth ($4.250m) ?????????????????????????---------------- Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / ---------NEW CONTRACT Burrows ($3.500m) NEW CONTRACT Higgins ($2.750m) /--- NEW CONTRACT Lapierre ($1.750m) / -----Jannik Hansen ($1.350m) Zack Kassian ($0.870m) ---------------NEW CONTRACT Schroeder ($1.250m) /------- Nicklas Jensen ($0.894m) DEFENSEMEN Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m) /------------------ Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m) NEW CONTRACT Edler ($4.550m) /------- NEW CONTRACT Tanev ($1.750m) NEW CONTRACT Marc-Andre Gragnani ($1.225m) GOALTENDERS NEW CONTRACT Schneider ($3.250m) NEW CONTRACT Lack ($1.500m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $68,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $55,189,167; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (18-man roster): $12,810,833 (oh yea and the salary cap is a big part in all of this... I am assuming the cap is not going to go up that much within the next 2 years.... especially after the new CBA... the owners are going to tighten things up, So im putting the cap at 68 million)
shawn antoski
I think the canucks can afford a top 6 forward or a #1 Dman... but they cant have both, we need a top 6 forward more and instead of a #1 dman we are better off with 2 veteran stay at home defencemen Luongo trade brings us a player worth up to 5 million by 2013 Garrison -4 years at 4 million per Souray - 2 years at 2 million per 2013-2014 roster FORWARDS Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) /----------- Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) /--------------------------NEW CONTRACT Burrows ($3.500m) ???Luongo Trade ($5.000m) /--- Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / --------------------------- Zack Kassian ($0.870m) David Booth ($4.250m) /---------- NEW CONTRACT Schroeder ($1.250m) / -------NEW CONTRACT Higgins ($2.750m) Jannik Hansen ($1.350m) / ------NEW CONTRACT Lapierre ($1.750m) /---------- Nicklas Jensen ($0.894m) ?? Pears
Here are the contracts that I thought would be fair to all players: Burrows: 5 years @ $20 million = $4 million per Edler: 7 years @ $4.75 million per Lapierre: 3 years @ $1.4 million per Higgins: 3 years @ $7.5 million = $2.5 per Tanev: 4 years @ $6 million = $1.5 per And I think we could land 3 of the big name free agents that year. Getzlaf, Perry and Timmonen (if they hit free agency) come to mind. Cap should be up around $73-$75 million so we should be good. Sedin - Sedin - Burrows Getzlaf - Kesler - Perry Higgins - Schroeder - Jensen Kassian - Lapierre - Hansen Edler - Timmonen Hamhuis - Bieksa Tanev - Connauton Schneider Lack
mpt
We need to have a lot of cap room come summer 2013 when there is a huge market for UFAs. We need to be very careful this summer not to screw our cap situation moving forward.
goalie13
It might be worth waiting to see what the new CBA looks like before making lineups for nearly a year and a half from now.

mpt
Might work, if Tampa is the only trading partner for Gillis but Malones contract is too long and Pucells is too short Garrison is 1 of the top 5 dmen available. He can easily get 4 to 5 million
Pears
You must be dreaming that Edler gets 3.75 per year. We'll be lucky to sign him at 5 mil/year for long term.
Provost
Only problem is that Edler and Garrison both play the left side and neither Salo nor Tanev are strong enough to play top 4 minutes all season.
