i quit my job on the the 16th sappose to get paid on the 18th, so they stop payment process for check scheduled for the 18th, which i think is illegal cause it wasnt really my last check. so i waited patiently cause the 3 day policie thing is u quit. i asked them not to mail and i will pick up. and they said ok it will be ready on the 24th.. on the 24th i call to see if its ready and they say sorry we thought it was more convinent to mail it to me... it is now thw 29th should i sue? or what? funny thing is lol they gave me a raise that week i wonder if its because of that ... removing my raise.

You are asking if you should sue?

Sue solely because your CHEQUE is late?

I just want you to know that the cost to sue someone would not justify the 11 days of interest.

So you quit the same week they gave you a raise, did they give you a raise in hopes that you would stay?

Wrong. If they sue you and lose they pay your legal fees.

What was the reason for you quitting?

or reasons?

So we are officially in a bit of a silly season, and in general I stay away from the completely crazy rumors that persist on the internet, or in the case of the Leafs having interest in Nabokov or Turco I will occasionally debunk them...however, I have been getting inundated with emails, PMs, and questions on twitter regarding a few rumors that are out there...so here goes.. I will address the rumors and follow with what I have or haven't heard...If you all like this format, maybe Wacky Wednesdays could be a regular feature. I wouldn't do it more than once a week, because I am too busy talking to actual sources and attempting to provide you all with as much unique information as possible.

Gotta say.. you received a raise which means the boss/manager thinks highly of you. You should have sucked it up and kept the job.

A job is not play. It is work.

It sucks, but an employer can do a lot to shove you around.

You would have to put a lot of time and effort into getting your money back through labour relations.

Most people would move on, but if you do make a record of it, it could help someone else down the road if a history builds up with the company.

I worked for a company that was doing the same thing to people, paying them out minus any overtime. The amount of overtime would be like 10-20 hours. Enough to leave a really bad taste in your mouth, but not enough to make you want to do anything about it.

By the sounds of it you just quit and walked out... big mistake.

Employers can really screw an employee around in these situations. I do believe they have up to 2 weeks to send you your final check.

Saw this earlier on my phone but didn't want to sign in just to laugh.

Who walks out, without notice, a day or two before receiving a cheque?
You take unpaid "days off" (sick days, emergency days) during the time between the end of the work week and getting the cheque then just never come back. You get the cash, and they can pound sand on any "administrative fees" associated with you leaving.

Learn how to quit!
Also, having more responsibility given to you isn't a bad thing. More work just keeps you busy while you are there if you're an hourly employee, even if that means having to flip more burgers than anyone else.

I remember when I quit last month, I got a check the following Friday thinking that was the rest of the money they owed me. Then I got another check a couple weeks later of all my vacation pay. Totally unexpected. Best feeling ever B)

Employment Standards Act says they have 6 days after you quit to pay you. So I'd cite that in following up with them.

Send a letter or email (to document things)...but try to brush up on your spelling/grammar first.

Before going the legal route I would call the employer. Assuming you haven't completely burned the bridge, you can politely explain that the cheque has failed to arrive and that you suspect it has been lost by Canada Post.

Ask them to put a stop payment on the cheque and re-issue you a replacement which you will come and pick up.

Don't sound petulant. Make as if it's just an unfortunate incident in which no-one is at fault.

You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar....

Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!
