oldnews
Most hockey pundits (people who are paid to analyze this stuff) disagree with you. You are too close/bitter to judge objectively but his numbers are pretty good for his cap hit. Edit: Watching Schenn play, he's pretty terrible defensively. He has potential, but I would disagree if you think Schenn adds more to a team than Luongo. Luongo was a Vezina finalist and I haven't heard Norris consideration for Schenn. Kryten
My comments about their fanbase was just that it will be as tough as ours. You were suggesting they are right and I made a comment that other players have been criticized greatly and turned into good players. You mentioned that he had developed some poor habits and I would assume that is due to maybe being in a poor developmental team like Toronto. When he was on a good team like Kelowna, he actually looked like a decent player right? Edler has a bad 2nd half of the year and suddenly he's a joke as well? Yes, something happened to the team last year that affected them overall. However, I find it hard to rag on a coaching staff that led us to two president's trophies, a cup finals and were knocked out by quite possibly the hottest team in the league at the time. You've developed your opinion on Schenn and I have mine. We will just have to agree to disagree and see what happens if he does get traded to us. If not, then this is all moot anyway. ssir_78
Being young and highly touted by Brian Burke in the past is hardly a ringing endorsement for any defenceman's abilities. Cleary you haven't watched this 22 year old "ex-untouchable" play more than a handful of games or you would be more worried about what he brings. Toronto fans aren't dumping on him unduly, his poor play over the last four seasons have made them and Burke very unhappy. I would be ecstatic if MG could somehow pry the fifth overall out of TO in the Lu deal. If the deal were to include Schenn however, my joy would turn into despair. MoneypuckOverlord
Is he really tough? Not every player needs to be as tough as nails man. I don't see how him not being incredibly tough is a reason to knock on him as a player. Is he really offensive? Yes is he a shut down specialist? He's a decent defencemen. He can hold his own back there. His skating and confidence on the puck comes in handy defensively as well. He is no shutdown specialist but again not ever player on a succesful team is going to be a shutdown speialist. Is he a power play specialist? He is definitely on his way to being one. This guy quarterbacked the Leafs powerplay in his rookie season. A powerplay which was ranked top ten in the league. He has all the tools to be a powerplay specialist. Possesses a good knowledge of the game, can move the puck and has a pretty effective shot. Is he a fast skating defencemen like Ehrhoff or Brian Campbell? Yes he does as a matter of fact. He has been compared to a young Brian Campbell on numerous broadcasts throughout last season. Does he have? Not even size? MapleLeafs main website, which is the most accurate for player measurements have him listed 6'0 184lbs. Again some of the best players in this league aren't the biggest. Smaller players can strive in this league nowadays. I am seriously beginning to question whether you have watched Gardiner at all this season. You are seriously undervaluing him as well as some of the other young players on the Leafs. You want Phil Kessel + for Luongo? You do know Phil Kessel is one of the most dangerous wingers in this league, a point per game player right? You want him for an aging goaltender with a bad contract? Come on really!? I like Luongo, I think he is a good player. But your demands are unbelievable and you seem to be making judgements on players you haven't watched a lot of.
