riffraff
Jake Gardiner - 6'2 184lbs Nick Lidstrom - 6'2 190lbs Erik Karlsson - 6'0 180lbs I'm not comparing the quality of these dmen, but the fact that I don't see how you can just claim being too small as the factor to not want someone. Ehrhoff did just fine for us and he may have been someone that we lacked this year.
dura_mater
you guys do realize that Gardiner is a future #1 D man and is worth A LOT more than Luongo
riffraff
I'd rather have Borje Salming than any of the current Leaf defencemen. And yes I do realize he's 61.

needtogetswole
You do realise that Luongo is a number 1 goaltender and has been a top 5 goaltender over the past 10 years.
Beeznuts84
Gardner for sure over Schenn! From what I've seen of this kid, he's got some real upside to his game. He's gonna put up some good #'s next season IMO.

Glov10
People who say Schenn sucks are morons. Kid is 22 years old, one year ago he was untouchable. He had an inconsistent year and Toronto fans are all over him trying to dump him on the first team possible(Sound Familiar?). If we can get Schenn and a first for Lu I'd be doing cartwheels

Ghostsof1915
Or maybe Connolly and Victor Hedman for Raymond, Ballard, and Luongo and our 1st?
john bell
I can't see Brian Burke trading the likes of Schenn, Gardiner, or even Franson for luongo. Likely We would have to take Armstrong or Lombardi plus someone else. Matt Frattin might do well here. I bet Burke would like Zach Kassian in a bigger package to get say Schenn. I think Schenn will be a Player. I doubt Gillis wants to move Kassian.

MoneypuckOverlord
I don't even think Gardiner is elite at all. He is decent, but nothing special. What's so special about Jake Gardiner? Anyone? I bet you guys can't even give me a straight answer. You idiots probably jumped on the Jake Garinder hype like everyone else. The Gardiner lovers that is. What's so special about him?? Is he really tough? not really Is he really offensive? not really is he a shut down specialist? He's a decent defencemen. Is he a power play specialist? No? Is he a fast skating defencemen like Ehrhoff or Brian Campbell? No Does he have? Not even size? MapleLeafs main website, which is the most accurate for player measurements have him listed 6'0 184lbs. So what the hell is wrong with you guys? You guys a want a defencemen who is just 22, put up decent numbers while playing on the 5th worst team he doesn't have size, speed, not an offensive beast, not a shut down guy, he's not that tough, he might have some hockey sense, but beyond that, Canucks.com is gushing over this guy???? REALLY???? WTF. 6'0 184????? You guys also say we need to add size to our defencemen?? Really?? Jake Gardiner IS NOT 6'2. He is NOT 6'2. Heck even Luke Schenn is not 6'2. even. WTF. What the hell is wrong with you guys! So if you ask me which Leafs defencemen do I want? None, really, none. There's no one worth trading for, I rather try to pursue, Hedman or even Dimitri Kulikov. All of their defencemens it not trading for, if Burke wants to trade for LUongo he needs to offer up Kessel, in a package. Luke Schenn or Jake Gardiner will not complete this deal. He also needs to throw in the 5th overall pick. If he think he's giving up too much, then we don't have a move. WE dont. Gillis can very well hang on to Luongo which I'm good with that too. I personally don't even picture us trading Luongo to the Leafs. There's not one single qualified player we can add that can make us better. LUke Schenn will just make our bottom 6 better. That's it. Luke Schenn is like a Denis Gauthier. All he does is hit, and he's hyped because he plays for the Leafs. Jake Garinder I don't even know why the hell you guys like him. Cody Franson, you f in kidding me. Adding more softness to our defence? A good gm will not make a trade just for the sake of it. For example, MIke Gillis is looking down at the Leafs roster. Individually there's no player that can make us better. We can add players, but it's the type of players we already have on our team, so we are not really moving foward, if we add someone like Luke Schenn or Jake Gardiner to our team. In conclusion, no trade with the Leafs will be made. Unless he offers us Kadri 5th pick and Kessel. Other then that, I don't see Gillis making a move to trade Luongo to the Laffs

RunningWild
Canucks needs: a) top 4 righty d-man to play with Edler b ) young, proven shutdown center (3rd line) c) someone to play with Kesler Toronto has zero of those assets: a) Fransons never played in the top 4, Gardiners a leftie who played sheltered/inflated mins, and Schenn is AV's worst defensive nightmare. b ) they don't have one c) MacArthur, Lupul's are UFAs next summer. Both are due for big raises. Why would Gillis take on this type of player, you're only guaranteed their services for 1 yr. (Nucks already have enough high profile contracts expiring next summer). What I'd like to see is a viable multi-player trade: Schenn to Van in Lu deal (just one piece). Then trade him to Philly for Couturier. There has been rumors Holmgren wanted L. Schenn (so both brothers could play on same team). Van gets their young 3rd line shutdown center to play 'Malhotra minutes', Gillis could sign Garrison to play with Edler and they could look at UFA's for a playmaker for Kes. Win win win
Kryten
If we based player's performances on fan perspective, the Sedins would have been dealt long ago. I agree that Schenn probably wasn't as good as Burke tried to make him to be, which put unrealistic expectations for Schenn to succeed. However, I feel like Schenn is just some confidence away from excelling. It is up to him to be a star dman in this league and being on the Canucks will give him the structure to build himself up. Our fanbase will be just as tough on him, but the difference is we are a successful team right now and he could go from a zero to a hero here instantly. He is an NHL player, so right now, it just depends where in the top 6 he will fit in and where his own play will put him.
