Of the overall best times for the 400m Individual Medley heats, Phelps is eighth, thus qualifying him. However, he was 0.07 s away from 9th. He is lucky to be in his final. Damn Phelps. Always catches the breaks just like 4 years ago when he beat out some guy for gold by like a hundedth of a second. On the bright side, b/c Cochrane doesn't have to race the 400 m freestyle final, he should be more rested for the 1500 m that he's actually better at.
