CTV (Stephen Brunt) puts together some really good packages

Stephen Brunt is possibly the best sports journalist in the world at this moment. Williams is an announcer.

It was nice seeing Canada recognize and support all there athletes (lets pretend like all of us did). Remember Jon Montgomery, or Alex Bilodeau? Has anyone been keeping up with them?

it would be cool if jesus held the olympic flame in rio...

It's a shame that the statue is so elevated, wouldve been a great monument to cross by during the Marathon. Oh well, they've got beaches by the crapload in Rio.

Jessie J sums up everything that is wrong with my country, and specifically the youth of the nation. No talent, rough as, horrific attitude, music gloryfying sex and drugs, and looked up to by millions of kids. Awful.

And John Lennon was responsible for some of the worst music in history, let's not forget that. I hate The Beatles.

Besides that, we're now apparently mocking the deceased (this horrendous cover of the Bee Gees). Thank the Lord for Oasis.

You know Oasis worshiped the Beatles right?

Is it....could it be....time to unpin this thread...? :( I don't want London 2012 to end.....or this thread....

Unpining this thread is like extinguishing the flame. It makes the end very official :(

One day some of us will look back on the year and look at the chicago, and most of us will realize that it was a small bump in the road to the cup

It was nice to see ELO receive its two minutes of fame, though disappointing not to see Jeff Lynne perform live. I would have liked to see David Bowie, Roger Waters/David Gilmour, U2, The Alan Parsons Live Project, Roger Hodgson, or perhaps even Coldplay. The ceremony lacked some of Britain's greatest arena performers, though it was pleasant to see Mike Rutherford and The Who again. The evening could have used Elton John too. The event, in general, was all right.

At least we were able to hear this for a few minutes, albeit the re-recorded version:

Unfortunately, probably not. Most of these Olympic athletes live on a shoe string, work their *sses off for a life-time, qualify in their sport, usually not a main-stream sport, and then get dissed by a public that has no idea of what it takes to become an Olympian. To become a sledder, or skiier at that level, is as equal as becoming an NHL or MLB athlete. Shameful, but I for one hope that every kid out there, that thinks they have what it takes, by all means go for it!

Yup, I looked it up for fun. Like all sporting events they split it up into seating areas. The front row seats were going for 1500 Euros.

FYI: Christine Sinclair is coming home tomorrow. She will land at YVR at 11am.

No word on whether or not the rest of the team will be with her. Sadly it's a work day for most of us but it'd be awesome for her to arrive to some fanfare. Hoping that people who are able, do go to welcome her home.

So is anyone disappointed medal wise for Canada? As for the host, I thought the London Olympics were good but not as good as ours. Why? Possibly being a homer, but I felt our Olympics was an opening up party for Canadians and we really united and showed real nationalism. I didn't see that in London.

Not disappointed with our 18 total medals but kinda disappointed with the fact that we only have 1 gold medal. Very proud of the Canadian athletes though, makes me proud to be Canadian

I am relatively satisfied with the total medal count, as I was hoping anywhere between 15-19 medals. However, I am not impressed at all with having only one gold medal to show for the entire two weeks. Not nearly good enough.

I don't think they did street events too much. In Vancouver you could party pretty much anywhere you wanted, in London is all happened within the park/facilities area.

I want to say something deep and insightful about these Games, but I'm too close to the end to sum it up.

I think the opening and closing ceremonies had their moments. The Olympic Flame monument with the petals was very elegant, and I did like the tribute to Britain's music, but not all of their music should be shared. Let's leave it at that.

As for the Canadians, I was pretty satisfied with our performance. It would have been unreasonable to expect us to match our high-water mark of the Vancouver Games, but it was especially disappointing that Whitfield, Hughes, Despaties or Lamaze didn't have the chance to do their best due to injuries. It would have been amazing to see them on the podium one final time. For the medals we did win, some of them are sentimentally more valuble than gold. Oldershaw's race comes to mind, as does the Men's eights silver, which was for me the most exciting moment of the Olympics:

Announcer: "THE GREAT BRITONS ARE FAILING, THE GREAT BRITONS ARE SLIPPING BACK! IT'S OPPORTUNITY STRIKES NOW FOR BRIAN PRICE! LOOK OVER THERE AND TELL THEM, "BOYS, YOU'RE MOVING, YOU CAN GET THEM IN THE LAST 20 STROKES!' "
Other announcer, trying to stay calm: "Here comes Great Britain, here comes Germany, AND HERE COMES CANADA! Final metres in the men's eight, Germany trying to hold on, AND NOW THE CANADIAN CREW, FIRING THROUGH!"

No, I still know the lyrics to every song by heart.

I've also rediscovered my love for "Our House".

EDIT: I had heard it was noon that they're landing though...
