i think we need a new thread

Ya I think we are good.

Is there a time when both Chimon and Gally can both be on. We could do a live sim in Tinychat for the Stanley Cup.

I'm usually good in the evenings during the week. I know Chimon might not be able to make those, but maybe we can figure out a time.

I'm pretty free this week. Usually sleeping from 4/5PM to 1/2 AM PST. No need to worry about getting the right time for me though, s'all good.

Could we get a quick playoff stats update before the SCF though? Just league leaders would be good.

Stanley Cup Finals Preview

Posted Image VS Posted Image

Tale of the Tape

Pittsburgh Penguins

Season Record: 51-23-8 (110 points)

Division Ranking: 1st

Conference Ranking: 1st

League Ranking: 2nd

Goals for (Rk): 217 (1st)

Goals against (Rk): 147 (1st)

Goal Differential (Rk): +70 (1st)

Powerplay (Rk): 23.4% (1st)

Penalty kill (Rk): 86.1% (1st)

Regular Season Leader: Evgeni Malkin (37-61-98)

Road to the Finals:

PIT (4) vs. BUF (1): WWLWW

PIT (4) vs. BOS (2): WWLWLW

PIT (4) vs. WPG (1): WWWLW

3 Players to Watch:

1. Sidney Crosby: The face of the franchise and the NHL. Crosby currently leads the Penguins playoff scoring with 6 goals and 14 assists and will look to keep his momentum going against the Vancouver Canucks.

2. Evgeni Malkin: Shares the title for regular season points leader (98) with the Canucks captain Henrik Sedin. Entering the Cup Finals with 6 goals and 13 assists to his name, Malkin could challenge Crosby for the Conn Smythe when all is said and done.

3. Marc-Andre Fleury: Top-3 in goalie statistics (T-3rd in wins [48], T-2nd in GAA [2.12], 1st in Sv% [0.926]). Shutouts seemed to elude Fleury in the regular season but he has bounced back with 3 in all 16 starts in the playoffs (two against the Winnipeg Jets in the Eastern Conference Finals).

X-Factor: Patric Hornqvist – Brought in with Martin Erat as part of a blockbuster trade that saw Jordan Staal and Matt Cooke go to Nashville, Hornqvist has provided superb secondary scoring in the regular season (27-29-56) as well as in the playoffs (6-6-12). This former 230th overall pick will try to earn his first Cup ring in a relatively young career over the next two weeks.

Vancouver Canucks

Season Record: 55-21-6 (116 points)

Division Ranking: 1st

Conference Ranking: 1st

League Ranking: 1st

Goals for (Rk): 216 (2nd)

Goals against (Rk): 160 (2nd)

Goal Differential (Rk): +56 (2nd)

Powerplay (Rk): 22.6% (2nd)

Penalty kill (Rk): 80.8% (14th)

Regular Season Leader: Henrik Sedin (26-72-98)

Road to the Finals

VAN (4) vs. CHI (2): WLWWLW

VAN (4) vs. SJS (1): WWWLW

VAN (4) vs. LAK (2): LWWWLW

3 (4) Players to Watch:

1. Henrik & Daniel Sedin: The twins have been up to their usual telepathic ways as both have combined for 30 points up to the Finals (and not surprisingly, only 2 points separate them). Henrik is the current regular season assists leader and shares the title for most points in the season with Evgeni Malkin. Daniel is tied for 4th in goal-scoring in the regular season with 38 markers.

2. Ryan Kesler: The leading playoff goalscorer for the Canucks with 7 to his name. As one of the top two-way forwards in the game, Kesler will not only be tasked with providing secondary scoring, but also trying to shut down the Pens duo of Crosby and Malkin.

3. Bryan Little: Has provided crucial secondary scoring for the Canucks during their playoff run with 5 goals and 7 assists. Seems to have found chemistry with his linemates Kesler and Booth at just the right time and should be every bit of a match against the Pens’ second line.

X-Factor: Alexandre Burrows: The success of the Canucks would not be complete without mentioning their resident dragon-slayer. Burrows has been every bit of a complement to the Sedins and has picked up 6 goals en-route to the Cup Finals. Pens and Nucks fans alike should expect a lot of bow-and-arrow celebrations on the NHL’s biggest stage.

Only player I had to do a little digging for regular season stats was Hornqvist; The rest I found in your league leaders table.

Figuring out playoff stats wasn't too bad since it's not too many games to go through.

BTW, who wins the Art Ross between Malkin/Henrik? Both have same amount of points.

STANLEY CUP FINALS: GAME 1:

PITTSBURGH 3 VANCOUVER 2(OT)

1st:
No Scoring

2nd:
PIT: Kunitz(6), (Hornqvist, Lecavalier)

3rd:
VAN: Pahlsson(3), (Booth, Hansen)
VAN: Kesler(8), (H.Sedin, Hamhuis)
PIT: Dupuis(6), (Lecavalier, Lovejoy)

OT:
PIT: Lecavalier(4), (Hornqvist, Michalek)

Shots: Pittsburgh 27 Vancouver 44

WIN: Fleury
LOSS: Luongo

Game Review: Pittsburgh walks in the Rogers Arena and takes game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals in OT.

-Marc-Andre Fleury stood on his head especially in the 1st period stopping all 15 Canucks shots he faced. The game was scoreless up until the 15 minute mark of the 2nd period where Chris Kunitz who was just promoted to the 2nd line opened the scoring with his 6th goal of the year.

The Canucks scored goals less then 3 minutes apart early in the 3rd, only to have Pittsburgh answer right back just over a minute later to tie the game at 2. Canucks have outshot the Penguins going into OT 44-25. Fleury is the big reason why this game went to OT.

Dan Hamhuis took an interference penalty just 22 seconds into OT and Lecavalier made them pay just 1:40 into the 1st OT and the Penguins take Game 1 and steal home ice advantage.

Tough loss but there are positives to take out if this game. It looks like we outplayed them but we ran into a hot goalie. Ready for game 2.

STANLEY CUP FINALS GAME 2:

PITTSBURGH 2 VANCOUVER 4

1st:
VAN: Kesler(9), (Little, Booth)
VAN: H.Sedin(5), (Lapierre, Edler)

2nd:
PIT: O'Reilly(2), (Dupuis, Martin)

3rd:
PIT: Neal(6), (Malkin)
VAN: H.Sedin(6), (D.Sedin, N.Schultz)
VAN: Burrows(7), (Edler, Kesler)

Shots: Pittsburgh 35 Vancouver 27

WIN: Luongo
LOSS: Fleury

Game Review: Canucks get much needed split at home

-The Canucks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead just 10 minutes into game 2 with goals from Kesler and Henrik. The Penguins answered back with the lone goal in the 2nd and another goal just 5 minutes into the 3rd. Henrik scored his 2nd of the game 2:30 after Neal had tied the game up at 2. Burrows iced the game with his 7th of the playoffs into an empty net.

Pittsburgh went 0 for 8 on the PP which included a full 2 minute 2 man advantage. Canucks went 0 for 3.

STANLEY CUP FINALS GAME 3

VANCOUVER 0 PITTSBURGH 2

1st:
PIT: Hornqvist(7), (Lecavalier)

2nd:
PIT: Neal(7), (Crosby)

3rd:
No Scoring

Shots: Vancouver 28 Pittsburgh 29

WIN: Fleury
LOSS: Luongo

Game Review: Fleury leads the way to give the Penguins a 2-1 series lead in the Stanley Cup Finals

-A more defensive battle in game 3 then what we were used to seen in the 1st 2 games in Vancouver. Hornqvist scores 9:05 into the 1st period and that is all the Penguins would have needed to take game 3. Neal added another for insurance 11:10 into the 2nd period. Canucks did their best to try and get one passed Fleury in the 3rd but failed to do so, even outshooting the Penguins 11-6.

Penguins went 1-3 on the PP and the Canucks went 0-3. Canucks are going to need to get their PP going and are going to have to stay out of the box if they want this series to continue past 5 games. Will the Canucks tie this series up at 2 heading back to Vancouver or will the Penguins have a chance to host Lord Stanley on the road in Vancouver.

STANLEY CUP FINALS GAME 4

VANCOUVER 3 PITTSBURGH 4

1st:
VAN: Pahlsson(4), (Higgins, Hansen)

2nd:
PIT: Hornqvist(8), (Martin)
PIT: Crosby(7), (Malkin)

3rd:
VAN: D.Sedin(7), (H.Sedin, Salo)
PIT: Dupuis(7), (Lecavalier, Kunitz)
VAN: H.Sedin(7), (Hamhuis, Kesler)

OT:
PIT: Kennedy(3), (Erat)

Shots: Vancouver 36 Pittsburgh 31

WIN: Fleury
LOSS: Luongo

Game Review: Tyler Kennedy and Marc Andre Fleury lead the way and Pittsburgh is 1 win away from their 4th stanley cup in team history

- Vancouver opened the scoring with 41 seconds left in the 1st period. Pittsburgh then jumped out to a 2-1 lead with the only 2 goals in the 2nd period. Daniel Sedin scored less then 2 minutes into the 3rd to tie the game up at 2. Dupuis scores 7 minutes into period 3 and the Pens jump out to a 3-2 lead. Henrik Sedin ties the game with just 4 minutes left to send the game into OT.

Tyler Kennedy ends the game just 3:53 into OT and sends the Pens fans home happy.

Pens go 1-4 on the PP and the Canucks go 1-3

1st:

2nd:
No Scoring

3rd:
No Scoring

OT:
PIT: Hornqvist(9), (Lecavalier, Dupuis)

Shots: Pittsburgh 38 Vancouver 30

WIN: Fleury
LOSS: Luongo

Game Review:Posted Image

-After 3 scoreless periods and Luongo doing all he can to help the Canucks force a game 6 stopping 37 of 38 shots he faced, the Penguins score 6:09 into OT on the PP after David "Grizzly Bear" Booth took a lazy hooking penalty 4:17 into the OT. Marc Andre Fleury stepped up huge in the Stanley Cup finals with 2 shutouts and the Penguins with 3 of their 4 wins in OT.
