stexx
as per darren dreger @DarrenDreger: Canucks file "cutdown" arbitration on Mason Raymond. Q.O is $2.6 million. Salary can't drop more than to $2.21 million if Van wins arb case. interesting, even at 2.21mil i dont think raymond can fill the goods. wonder what gillis's gameplan is with this one. tera_ha
The Vancouver Canucks filed 'cutdown' arbitration with forward Mason Raymond on Wednesday, instead of making a qualifying offer. Last season, Raymond made $2.6 million and the arbitrator may not award a salary less than 85% of that amount or $2.21 million. It's a Club Elected Salary Arbitration for players who were making more than $1.5 million per season. Last season, Raymond had 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 55 games. Tm085
Raymond is not worth more than Burrows...then again Burrows is worth alot more than the 2mil he's making

TheWheeler
Bringing down his caphit will make him more appealing in a trade. Good on Gillis.

cIutch
honestly i like raymond and hope the best for him but thats way to much to pay for a guy whos basically 2nd line or bust
Jägermeister
At less any less than the qualifying offer, it isn't really a bad deal for the money. There would be a few team who might want Raymond signed at that price.

Iron_Gland
I don't want Raymond back for any amount of money. He's a progress stopper for a bunch of young players that haven't already hit their ceiling (Schroeder, Jensen, etc)

stexx
if the canucks take him to arbitration can he be traded? or is the no-trade for a year with offersheets only? - also where do they get the 2.21 mil? can he only get a 15% paycut? (what a stupid rule if so)
JasetheCanuck
so what does this actually mean?
CanuckCupFever
As you mentioned, this has more to do with Burrows only making about half of what he would earn on the open market. Raymond would probably fetch 2-3 mil if he was a UFA. Smart move by MG, if they win the case he will have a better bargaining chip to trade, and less of a risk if they keep him.
