WL Canuck Fan
I'm definitely with you on signing brodziak (tough, skilled, size) though i'm pretty sure he signed an exstension with minnesota at the beginning of the year. can anyone confirm or deny that? Captain_Burrows
Sedin Sedin Burrows Booth Kesler Higgins Raymond-Lappiere-Hansen Malhotra- Hudler- Kassian Boom. Maybe sign or trade for 2nd line upgrade. Then higgins plays on third hansen on fourth, Kassian to minors. Hudler was always solid in detroit. Canuck Surfer
Buy Manny out, then re-sign him? You do realize he still gets paid in a buyout... (2/3 rds remainder if I'm???). So then he gets signed for 1/3rd of his salary, collects the same dough, but walks around the cap... I can see the NHL going for that! I think we trade for Ott and buy Manny out then re sign him for way the fudge less. That way Ott is on the left wing of the third line, Lappy is 3rd line centre to improve his ability. Manny permanent 4th line duty, with Weise/Bitz and Hansen. Ott is a center too so we'd have another back up. Lapierre has skill, he has talent, I was there in Phoenix when he turned over the puck and scored the 4-0 goal I think it wasi n November. He has the pedigree for 3rd line center, he just needs ice time and coaching. He has a SCF gwg so you know he's there for the big moments. Just need to cut Raymond and give Manny less so we can sign a D and Ott.
nd84
I think that with a FULL off-season to train both physically and mentally, Manny can return to form as our 3rd line center With what we have now we have about 3 choices 1) Malhotra 2) Lapierre 3) Schroeder
oldnews
Why don't we trade something like Edler + Schneider to Toronto for the 5th overall pick, we could draft Galchenyuk/Grigorenko, who could easily fill in for Kesler, when injured, and they'd be better than Cody. Also, we could get rid of Edler, who might not want to sign next year.
CRAZY_4_NAZZY
I dont see why people are already writing Manny Malhotra off so quickly. I swear, this summer will do wonders for the man, being able to have a full summer to train and prep himself to shape once again. That eye injury was a fluke that really costed and took a toll of his game this past season, but i think with a full summer to rehab and really train hard will do wonders for Manny. I think Manny still has the capability to be a good third line center who has decent offensive upside as he has shown prior to his eye injury and a stellar defensive game, and not to mention as if anyone doesn't already know a wizard in the faceoff dot. he is very discipline, has great leadership skills, you can see his passion to win. This guy still has lots to offer to this team, lets not write him off yet. Lappiere could take the third line spot, he fits the perfect mold of that third line center. Brings energy, defensively sound, can contribute offensively, a major spark plug who hits, fights and grinds it out. Reminds me a lot of Kris Draper back during his prime years with the Red Wings, but minus the fisticuffs. One thing that really only concerns me of lapierre is his lack of discipline. 130 penalty minutes is a lot. Considering a player who would play 10 minutes+ a game and rack up 130 pims is pretty costly for a team that is in need of his services. Thats why hes more rounded for a fourth line player. I'm not saying he should be a gentle lil noob and not hit and fight and etc, but if he wants more time on the ice, hes going to have to prove to AV that he can stay discipline and not take bad penalties that will cost the team. Too many times he did that during the LA series which utterly costed us. Much like Burrows and Kesler( well before he started to be the major drama queen he is now ) learned to play between the whistles and got there bits in here and there. Maxim you can tell has bought into the system somewhat, but he needs to tame in down sometimes. I dont see what would be a problem when Kesler comes back is to let him wade on the third line center position and let Schroeder take over the second line. I think Schroeder's offensive capabilities are a lil more superior over Kesler's. It just so happens Kesler has a more complete game to go with his good offensive game. Paul_Kariya28
Yes because every top 5 pick steps into the NHL and turns into an 80 pt guy his first year.We can at the same time throw away an all star defenseman for a 4th line center. WOW JUST WOW GO TAKE SOME MORE CRACK
Canucks fan in chicago
Jordan Schroeder could be an option or sign a UFA. Aloha_Vancouver
I'm not sure about Manny... It's pretty easy for an injury like his to be career changing and it's definitely not a safe bet that he'll come back any better... In fact at 33 he might be worse. I think we should let Schroeder come up for a couple games if he's looking good in the preseason. AV never gives enough time to our prospects anyways and this would be a good opportunity for him to show what he can do. Worse comes to worse, he flops and we have 5/6s of a season to make up for it w/ Kes back in the line-up. Still crossing my fingers he comes back a new player. canucklehead44
We need a good playmaker. Make the Kesler line and the 4th line more suited to checking, and the "third line" be a scoring line. Sedin Sedin Burrows Hansen Kesler Higgins Booth Playmaking Centre Kassian Moen Malhotra Lapierre Note: we can't pay a lot of money. I think Jokinen would be great but on the expensive side. The two-way guys like Stoll would be too pricy. FREE AGENTS: 1. Olli Jokinen 2. Daymond Langkow 3. Jochen Hecht 4. Brendan Morrison 5. Dominic Moore TRADE: Ville Leino Derek Brassard Matt Cullen Lars Eller Danius Zubrus Tim Connolly
Provost
I wouldn't call our 3rd line centre a "situation" exactly... it seems just fine to me and not a place where we should focus any particular energy on our roster considering what we do need. When healthy: Sedin Kesler Lapierre Malhotra Ebbett (I think he will re-sign if we don't get a veteran guy in whatever goalie deal we make) When Kesler out: Sedin Lapierre Malhotra Ebbett I do not believe that Schroeder will be playing on our roster, maybe a few games just to get a taste... but he has less of a chance of having a future with our club than Hodgson did. ccc44
I think that i am happy pahlsson left he was never that happy to be playing here. I think Lappy could be great replacement, with that being said we know he can produce but the question is consistency. In 08-09 he played on the third line and had 15 goals but then when Martin took over in MTL he went from being third line centre to being on the bench for some games. I think that lappy is ready to take on the challenge again but i would like for the Canucks to sign a gaustad or someone so just incase lappy does not perform up to par maybe gaustad will be able to. It is also good because we will have reliability and depth. Also my sister is friends with his sister as they go to school with eachother being a MTL native and when his sister came to my house she told me that Max loves Vancouver and a contract extension would make him really happy. So maybe the Canucks should get on that right before the playoffs begin so he will work harder and play with confidence. The good thing about lapierre is that he was aquired to be a fourth line centre but he is a player who is capable of stepping up when we need him. What are ur thoughts on lappy and the third line situation?

AnInconvenienceBrah
This is all fine and dandy but we should really be concerned about finding another top 6 playmaking forward and a right sided top 4 D more than figuring out who our third line centre will be when we do have Lapierre and Malhotra under contract. JensenFan2011
If Luongo is the one to be traded then send him to Toronto for Luke Schenn. Schenn is BIG, gritty, shot blocking, hitting machine who sticks up for teams mates, he's also a right sided D man who is more of a shut down guy this opening up Edler's offence. Schenn brings a lot to the blue line that we really do need and he's very young with lots of room to grow. Give Schroeder a shot on Kesler's wing, Schroeder is a right handed playmaker with speed and skill he could set up Booth and Kesler who both bring size and speed. Sedin Sedin Burrows Booth Kesler Schroeder Higgins OPEN Hansen Malhotra Lappy Kassian Hamhuis Bieksa Edler Schenn Ballard Tanev Schneider Lack
