Buddhas Hand
Very curious about the 7% salary cut offer....this makes it very tempting, one would think, in that we already know that if the average career is 10 years, say for argument, then losing this season is a 10% cut in ones career income from hockey, now the NHL is saying they will only cut 7% if the players sign now, and they can do a full season, so not lose any % of income on the lockout time..this is somewhat agreeable circumstances. We all know most players only get around 5 years on the ice in the NHL, which makes half a season lost wages equal to 10% lost lifetime earnings....to cut that prospect out and only lose 7% while the HRR grows year over year which will increase salaries by year 6 of the deal by some 20 million per team...its a no brainer. Primal Optimist
I am looking at the 231 million they are talking about, which apparently is the difference this year between 57% and 50%. Not sure how accurate that is, but if it is as reported...that is divided by 30 teams...which works out to 7.7 million per teams cap that will be cut out. We have seen the cap rise from 39million in year one of the CBA to 70million by the end...almost doubled...so my thought is that the 7.7million will disappear very quickly in the next year or two and then go on beyond the dollar amounts of even pre-September 15th 2012..in real money the players don't really lose in this deal...they take one step back and then in every year after they get to go forward as the cap rises. Primal Optimist
and now I am reading more and seeing that provisions are included that any contract that is already signed will be honoured: no rollback! wow this deal gets better for the players, as I am almost certain that the cap will rise again from 60million as the league is proposing to probably 65 for 2013-14 based on the recent years rise in cap ...its a pretty good offer really. The sad thing is that yes the owners are greedy pigs...but then again, they do own it.
