Raleigh Morning News

With the first quarter of the season just passing by, we grade every players performance on your Carolina Hurricanes.

Loui Eriksson

The most underrated player in the league is Loui, but he has had a slow start. Carolina needs him to pick it up and play like the star he is if they want to make a move in the standings.

Grade- B-

Mika Zibanejad

He had a great honey moon period with the team when he was first called up, but has struggled since. Carolina is very pleased with his performance so far and hopes he continues to develop.

Nail Yakupov

The first overall pick has been very consistent throughout the first quarter of the season. He has easily been the teams most exciting player and has had some clutch goals. The fans in Carolina should get excited for this guys future.

Kyle Chipchura

Has been one of the surprises of the league so far. While leading the team in fantasy points, he is also the heart and sole of this team with some big fights and working hard every shift.

Zach is a player that needs to pick it up. He has been given every chance to succeed here in Carolina and he hasn't taken advantage of it. Time is running out for him

When he has played he has been very affective, we hope he gets to play more, in past seasons he has scored 20 goals when he plays a full season.

PMI- 2

James Wright

Another pleasant surprise for Carolina, has stood up for his team mates multiple times and has been a very effective role player for Carolina. He needs to start chipping in on the score board though.

After been acquired in a early season trade with New Jersey, he has been doing just has expected. A nice player to be called upon and gives Carolina some depth.

Colton Gillies

When he plays he is a very affective player. Carolina believes he is just like Chipchura, having watched him lots in junior they know he is a character player who can score, he just hasn't been given the chance yet.

The young centre struggled early in the season. And hasn't registered a point yet. He is one of the many disappointments Carolina has had this year.

When Carolina traded for him days before the season started the were excited. They knew they had finally got there puck moving defensemen that they have been craving. He has been very stellar and consistent but he needs to stay healthy.

PMI- 2

Chris Tanev

Having scored his first goal this year Chris has showed a bit of offensive upside, witch is what the team needs. He has been the teams best and most consistent defensemen and will give James Wisniewski the freedom to be more offensive.

Brian Lashoff

Brian was a very good pick up for Carolina. The 22 year old has been logging a lot of minutes and has showed some offensive upside. He has a very bright future ahead of him.

Jeff has been a major disappointment ever since joining the team last year. Carolina needs him to be a consistent top 4 defensemen and find his game again. He is off to another slow start, and time might be running out for him.

He was signed to be mentor for the young defenders and he is doing just that. He has been very solid defensively although it would be nice if he could score once in a while.

It looks like Anton is finally getting healthy. They need him to stay healthy and use that shot he has. In two games he has showed lots of promising signs and it looks like he will be getting more minutes soon.

PMI- 0

Thomas Greiss

The young goalie has played great in one game and below average in his other two starts. They need him to start being more consistent if he wants to be the starter in Carolina now and the future.

Wins-1

Loses- 2

OTL- 0

SO- 1

Grade- B

Josh Harding

Josh has been very good considering the circumstances. Carolina will be watching his minutes as Ms has been getting the better of him lately.

Wins- 1

Loses- 1

OTL- 0

SO- 1

Grade- A

It was a very disappointing first quarter for the hurricanes. With many players struggling they have not been scoring many goals. On defence it looks like they could use a bit more depth, with the emergence of Lashoff and Tanev in the top 4. On offence they need a lot of help and players to step up.

Rule 83 - Off-side

83.1 Off-side - Players of the attacking team must not precede the puck into the attacking zone.

The position of the player’s skates and not that of his stick shall be the determining factor in all instances in deciding an off-side. A player is off-side when both skates are completely over the leadingedge of the blue line involved in the play.

A player is on-side when either of his skates are in contact with, or on his own side of the line, at the instant the puck completely crosses the leadingedge of the blueline regardless of the position of his stick. However, a player actually controlling the puck who shall cross the line ahead of the puck shall not be considered “off-side,” provided he had possession and control of the puck prior to his skates crossing the blue line.

It should be noted that while the position of the player’s skates is what determines whether a player is “off-side,” nevertheless the question of an “off-side” never arises until the puck has completely crossed the leading edge of the blueline at which time the decision is to be made.

If a player legally carries or passes the puck back into his own defending zone while a player of the opposing team is in such defending zone, the off-side shall be ignored and play permitted to continue.
