MSG News 2013:

Follow all tonight's action as the New York Rangers ice a competitive line up and try to move a few dozen points closer to Montreal and Philly. On the ice tonight we hope to see Thomas Vanek back in Action after an upper body injury kept him off the ice for a few games. Joining him will be Captain Joe Thornton, and Nik Antropov, also starting in Net Steve Mason! Jake Muzzin will look to keep his ball rolling tonight, featured on the top pair and the second unit Power Play. Galiardi, Brent, Powe, Whitney and Mark Stuart round out the team and add support to the Rangers in an uphill fight towards playoff contention. Ryan Malone is not expected tonight, but will remain a game time decision.

Ryan Whitney is back from the press box with a vengence, scoring early and picking up two dirty points to go with the 5 biggies.

Thomas Vanek back with a nice 7 points as well. Nice! good word.

If you missed the show last night, young gun defenseman Jake Muzzin seemed to own the ice while notching 2 goals and an assist in 23 minutes of ice time. Jake has certainly shown he can handle top pair minutes as he finished the night at plus2, and while he enjoys some power play time on the second unit, all his points last night came at even strength, a sign of things to come. Jake leads the rangers in points overall for the month of March and while it is early, Jake is well on his way to a Star of the Month, just one week in.

The Quebec Nordiques has been experiencing an unexpected push for the division lead, but even with this unexpected success, they will continue to stay the course with the long term plan.

"We won't be giving up on our youth, we are bursting with young players ready to make an impact - Huberdeau, Reilly, Teravainen, Coyle and Schroeder are just the first layer of our youth movement" - Gm Squeak.

But its clear to see that Quebec does have a hole in the centre position with Brian Boyle and Antoine Vermette being pending UFA at seasons end. "Clearly we would want to resign both of the them, but we understand that may not be possible due to the falling cap next season' quipped Squeak.

'But we would love to add a bonafied Top 6 centre to our group for next year, but the players that have been shopped and offered to us, would have cost us 2-3 top young pieces for an aging veteran. So given that we would be willing to give up the necessary pieces to get what we need, but we won't gut the team'

When pressed, GM Squeak advised what he would be willing to part with - ' Yes, our 2014 1st round pick, a D, and one top young player would be a package we would be willing to move, if not more, if the deal was right'.

When further pressed for details, GM Squeak snapped back ' We won't name specific names on our roster as that is not fair to our players, but it's pretty clear who is untouchable on this team'

Given this - it's safe to assume that Quebec is willing to pay the needed price prior to the April 3 deadline, to get ready to put them 'over the top' next season .

We will see if going 'over the top' will be in Quebec, The Emerald City or The Valley of the Sun.
