Players who have stood out for the Washington Capitals the past couple nights:

Zack Kassian: Kassian has been developing within the Caps system for two full seasons now and the young power forward is hoping to finally make his mark now that he will be getting a full NHL season. The Ontario Native scored his second goal of the season by battling hard in front and has both a fight and a shootout winner on his early season resume to boot.

Brad Boyes: The former 40 goal scorer was the only offseason acquisition that the Capitals made this past offseason. Boyes signed a two year deal and is expected to play a leadership role on a very young and inexperienced team in Washington. He had by far his best game of the season tonight racking up a goal and two assists.

Sam Gagner: The former 6th overall draft pick in the 2007 NHL entry draft is off to a hot start this season with 3 points in 3 games. The most significant of his points came tonight when he notched the overtime winner on the powerplay to give his team the win. If the Capitals want to have a dynamic top 6 that can compete with the league's best, Gagner will have to be a consistent contributor centring the team's second line.

Devan Dubnyk: After a bysmal performance in his previous game, Dubnyk rebounded quite nicely only allowing one goal on 32 shots up against the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings. The young goaltender is doing everything in his power to prove that he should be the team's starter during veteran Miikka Kiprusoff's final year of his contract. Rumours have been swirling that one of the two goaltenders will be on their way out of Washington during the season and due to his age and cap hit, Dubnyk is expected to be the one staying put in the Nation's Capital.

Love seeing Patrick Marleau on top of the scoring list just behind Joe Thornton. With 6 goals in 3 games (2 per), he becomes the first person since Peter Stastny in 82-83 to start the year with 3 multi-goal games.

sullivan keeps me a little bit alive 1 ppg 1 ppa 4 pims 12 points so far

Sullivan looking like this year's Whitney for the Yotes.

Grats.

Sullivan is a work horse. This is not a flash of brilliance on an otherwise average year, if he is healthy he is a 50 point player year in and year out. as a mini fan of the Yotes..dunno why but they are growing on me..i am glad they picked him up.

And speaking of work horse, how about our own Joe Thornton! He is a fan favorite here in New York and its easy to see why! He almost single handedly carried the team last night with a 20 point night, one short of the other 15 players combined total. Grats to Joe, who is proving yet again that the C belongs on Jersey number 19.

Assignment: The New York Rangers assign Jake Muzzin to the Connecticut Whale. In two games this year Jake Muzzin saw an average of 12 minutes of ice time, giving our coaching staff the look they needed to confirm Jake is a solid Dman who will be back this year in injury relief, no doubt. We are looking forward to a long working relationship with Jake here in our system, and wish we had the room to keep him up right now. Jake will be on the top pairing defensively for the Whale, with Ty Wishart, dropping Mike Moore down to Kent Huskins soon to be vacant spot. (thanks C2X)

2013/01/24: Jacob Muzzin made his season debut with the Rangers on Tuesday. He logged 15:23 of ice time and posted a shot during the team's 3-1 loss. Muzzin spoke to MSG NEWS Thursday morning about getting into the team's lineup and he had this to say: "It felt pretty good. I had a good week of practice going into it, so I'm feeling pretty confident, I'm excited, I thought I did pretty good, so I'm looking forward to tonight's game."

Call Up: The New York Rangers activate Defenseman Kent Huskins from the Connecticut Whale. Kent Huskins had shown the coaching staff last year that he was a reliable steadying influence on the back end, and we are happy to have him again this year. Kent Huskins will slot into the third pairing position vacated by Jake Muzzin on the team depth chart.

2013/01/25: Coach John Tortorella was candid as ever about Kent Huskins, speaking to MSG News Friday prior to the team skate: "Give me a break here, have you seen this guys resume?. I had a good bit of input into this decision and I am telling you what I told Primal Optimist before the roster change, Kent has 300 CDCGML games under his belt and he comes out of that experience with damn near 70 points and a plus 50 rating. We have the fire power, and we have the goaltending, we need Kent Huskins to solidify the back end depth, you wanna talk reliable, your gonna need to talk about Kent Huskins, why are we even having this debate? No more questions."

The Blackhawks are pleased with the start to our season , even though we lack really high end talent our players have meshed as a team ,and as we all know a champion team , will always beat a team of champions.
We would like to acknowlege the contribution of Carl gunnarson , who has really picked up his game.

Many may question a 1st place team making such a drastic move, but with where the salary cap is going and Jordan due for a big raise this summer we had to look over our options and make sure our organization was in the right place in the present as well as for our future. As everyone knows Jordan is a tremendous hockey player, his resume speaks for itself, it was a tough decision to make but we feel it was the right one for the organization moving forward. We also felt playing him out of position on the LW could have been a concern for Jordan moving forward, as both sides felt he was one of the best in the business down the middle of the ice. We wish Jordan and the Stars nothing but the best in the future.

Sven is an incredibly skilled young hockey player. He has been on the organization`s radar for some time now. We are thrilled to have him in the sunshine state and expect him to contribute to the roster as soon as he steps on the ice as well as greatly in the future. Griffin is a big rugged two-way defenseman with huge upside. He was the 4th overall pick last season for a reason. We cannot wait until he develops and becomes apart of our team, we are expecting huge things.

We could really need some support of our Goalies today but Scrivens wont Start today ..so it all depends on Theo.
Further with Weiss, Goc and Bergenheim we miss some really important Players.
While Goc could return next Week it seems that Bergenheim is out for longer Time..may for the entire Season but its not confirmed on official sites yet. Also no news on Stephens injury..we hope we get some clarifications around the Day.
Thomas Vincour could get his first shot in the NHL tonight and we hope that Erat, Legwand , Sullivan Iginla and Bouwmeester will add some Points tonight.
Bollig might be a scratch again and Hartikainen is without Points so far.
