Primal Optimist
The New York Rangers have, as the league indicated exercised their right to a compliance buy out of the contract with Rick DiPietro. We would like to make it perfectly clear that the team I inherited had to distance itself from this contract, a fifteen year deal with a cap hit of 4.5million per year, a contract signed by a previous GM, and not of our making or agreement. It is important to note that Rick DiPietro the goaltender is a great netminder, albeit with some time lost due to injuries. We admire Rick, and thank him for his time spent on our team, and we are confident that this buyout will free him up to further his career in the CDCGML, an opportunity that our depth chart and cap circumstances would not have afforded him had we opted to keep him in our system. Rick was due to start in net for the Connecticut Whale, behind Mike Smith and Steve Mason on our depth chart, and that situation was not ideal for a man like Rick DiPietro, and not ideal for our team. We waived Rick not once, but twice, and had several candid conversations in hopes of moving him to a team that could better utilize his amazing talents. When all of these options failed to pan out, we in New York planned on using Rick as an injury callup of epic proportions, sensing that we would have an elite netminder available to us in case of emergency all season long. The substantial changes to the CBA being what they are, changed our situation regarding this contract and our approach to it, but not our appreciation of the man behind the contract. In summary, we are sad to lose such a valuable and talented individual, however team finances, and the cut in salary cap dictated that we must be sensible and utilize the legal maneuver available to remove this contractual burden from beneath our salary cap while a window was available. We thank you Rick for your efforts here, and we wish you a smooth transition to your future, one we are sure will play out on the ice. Good Luck. canuck2xtreme
Reminder to everyone to get your completed rosters in to me ASAP so I can get them put into the site. And remember that both your active and minor league rosters have to be cap compliant. Again, our salary floor is $44 million and the ceiling is $70.2 million. In the minors, you must have enough money budgeted to player development to afford the players in your lineup. Failure to comply to this will result in me NOT putting your roster in and you will not collect points until you are compliant with the rules above and submit your roster. Thanks!
