Columbus Three Stars.

First Star:

F Cody Eakin

Acquired half way through the month for veteran Mike Ribeiro, Cody immediately made himself at home, acquiring 30 pool points in a mere 15 days. While that isn't a crazy high number (pace for 56 pool points in the full 28 day month), what Cody did was come in and revitalize a team that was lagging somewhat. He's recently been promoted to the second line after a second solid 15 point week. For a player that was initially expected to play solid defensive hockey in the bottom six, Cody's been a revelation.

Second Star:

D Jonathan Ericsson

After having a poor three game January in which he went absolutely pointless, Ericsson has put up 9 points in 15 games (this even included a five game pointless streak). The swede has really stepped up into a bigger role this year, as he's been relied on in all situations. With the departure of Lidstrom and Stuart, Ericsson is now one of the top D-men in Detroit, and he's really playing like one. He is currently a mere 6 points away from matching his career high of 15.

Third Star:

F Andrew Ladd.

Andrew built on his hot start to the season by piling up another 10 goals in February (2 game winners included), to go with his four helpers. The forward has helped propel the Blue Jackets from the doldrums of the foot of the table to suddenly be challenging division rivals Nashville for the coveted "not last place in the division" award. Andrew is really stepping up to the plate and showing his leadership abilities and is really showing the league that he is an elite player.

Montreal Canadiens

3 Stars

February 2013

3rd Star: Rick Nash - Despite missing four games recently with a suspected concussion, Nash piled up 47 pool points in February after averaging a point per game in the games he did play. The big winger continues to show why he is our highest-paid player, as he fired 12 (!) shots on net in the other night in his first game back from injury.

2nd Star: Mark Streit - The injuries to our blue-line have been well documented, but one player has been a constant. Streit has played in every game this season so far and has been a steady and reliable performer, and his 48 pool points in February were second best on the team.

1st Star: Alex Tanguay - Tanguay has earned his way back onto the top-line in Montreal with incredibly solid play, as his 66 pool points in February were by far and away the most on the squad. After a slow start to the season, Alex has been red-hot of late as he added 12 points in 14 games in the month.

Honorable mentions: Anders Lindback (45 points), Alex Galchenyuk (44 points) and Ryan O'Byrne (44 points).

The Sharks are looking to pick up 2nd round picks in this years draft, and of course, continue to look to upgrade their NHL roster.
All offers will be considered

Washington Capitals Starting Lineup:

Evander Kane - Pavel Datsyuk - Brad Boyes

Patrik Elias - Sam Gagner - Kyle Turris

Marcus Foligno - Boyd Gordon - Jakob Silfverberg

Dan Carcillo - Chris Kreider - Jordin Tootoo

Zack Kassian, Matt Halischuk

Kyle Quincey - Keith Yandle

Tim Erixon - Ryan Ellis

Simon Despres - Mark Fayne

Roman Hamrlik

Devan Dubnyk

Miikka Kiprusoff

Hey Curt, this was the last lineup I posted and it has yet to be updated on pickuphockey. I think that the only change that needs to be made is that Dan Carcillo is in the lineup and Richard Panik should be in the AHL as of February 27th. Thanks in advance! :)

The New York Rangers have a gem in Stajan!

RECENT NEWS

Coach Bob Hartley has loved the play of Matthew Stajan this season.
Stajan was not a big part of the Flames plans with only eight goals and 18 points last season in 61 games, as he was a healthy scratch for previous coach Brent Sutter on numerous occasions. But it's been a different story this season as Stajan's play has been so impressive that he is now on the top line with Jarome Iginla and Alex Tanguay. "I love Matty," Hartley said. "I think he's a great student of the game. He's a great hard-worker. And it seems that he wants more. I have absolutely no problem with this. I'm very happy with him. He's been unbelievable. He's been on pucks. He's forechecking. He's winning big faceoffs. He's a great penalty-killer. Five-on-five, I use him against the top forwards of the other team." Looks like Stajan is worth picking up in deeper pools as he has three goals, nine points and a plus-eight rating in 17 games. Feb 26

MSG NEWS 2013:

With Kent Huskins waiver fate unknown, he remains officially unassigned, following his 24 hours on the wire which ended earlier this morning. After some fast hustling to the car rental counter however, Andrew Ebbett is NOT being called up by the Rangers either. There is a new body on the ice at practice today, and it is fully expected that the Center will play for the Rangers today, after a small trade, which has yet to be officially announce. Kent Huskins will be assigned to his official position once New Yorks front office knows they have his rights still. He is not skating today, so there is time to work out the details.

So what was going on in Feasters Office? I am watching yesterdays sports news and the offer sheet was for a guy who would have had to clear waivers to play for them?

I admit i don't know how that goes down: if he was clear to play for the team that owns his rights a week ago, then he ought to be clear for a team that offer sheets him, by my thinking...but there is speculation that if Feaster got him, then the league has rules that say he must clear waivers to play since he played overseas since the lockout ended...now my question is why doesn't the Aves have to let him clear waivers to play?

If you remember, this is what happened with Nabokov.

Because he came over mid season after playing with a EU team, he had to clear waivers to play.

I guess this is just the same rule applied, but with the added twist of having an offer sheet complicating things.

Players on a teams RFA list (O"Reilly was on Avs RFA list) are exempt from waivers in this situation.

I don't quite get why he'd have to clear waivers, the way I read the rule I'd agree with the flames staff on the issue. But either way. Calgary should have gotten clarification from the league beforehand anyways.

They are only exempt for their team and that right cannot be traded or transferred by way of an offer sheet. Any other team trying to bring them in has to have them clear waivers. It is the same for UFA players as well.

Colorado can bring him back without waivers but the other 29 teams cannot by way of an offer sheet.

well, now we know, and this is only because he played over in the KHL after the lockout ended or is this because he was an RFA and all RFA's would have to do this?
no one would ever offer sheet if their player had to go on waivers aftger they got him..so i guess its only due to KHL work after lockout

Yes, playing in the KHL after the NHL season started is the ONLY reason. But would apply to any RFA players or UFA players as well. Teams own players are exempted though. That exemption is non transferrable.

Talking the actual Nucks game tonight.

Is something wrong with Ballard?

Why is Alberts still playing?

What sort of universe is this where Keith Ballard, who's probably been one of our most consistent D-men is being replaced by Alberts?

Someone please tell me Keith is ill, right?

I figure even IF Ballard is the sixth Dman on the depth chart (arguably higher) then your doing something right on the blue line. But yeah, AV just detest's Ballard, imo. Again i am biased about viggy's decisions.

I'm not saying Ballard should be top 4. But the guy is making $4.2 million on the cap and it seems like anything less than a perfect game and he's back in AVs doghouse, and the press box. He was our best defenceman against the Kings in the playoffs last year. Sure, that wasn't exactly a high bar, but still.
