TRADE: The New York Rangers have made a trade with the Vancouver Canucks.
First of all, Thank you to TJ, Darroll and Colin for being a part of our organization, and contributing in significant ways here. Scott Kosmachuk as well, a high draft pick just last summer, Scott will have a bright future in the GML.
And now a Big Welcome to Sami Salo, Robert Bortuzzo Corey Cowick and 2011 first round draft pick Connor Murphy. The Empire State will embrace each and every one of you.
It is no secret Sami and I have worked together in another organization and he still has gas in the tank and a skillset that is highly prized in the GML scoring structure. Sami will join our top pairing and see maximum Power Play time as we attempt to reverse our fortunes on the blue line this year.
Also joining the big club right away will be Robert Bortuzzo, on the 3rd pair. Bortuzzo is NHL ready, but will need some time to season and get accustomed to the tempo at this pro level, we have the space to allow that to happen, and frankly, having him on the club is already an upgrade as we can now ice a full 8 Dmen for the first time this year.
I am not oblivious to the age of our significant offensive blue liners and for that reason we were eager to take on Connor Murphy and get him in our system right away. Connor has undergone season ending surgery following his WJC Gold Medal performance, however the injury in question is expected to heal back to 100%, and with his resiliant young age, we believe it won't be long before Connor is pushing his way into the lineup.
Last but not least, this deal cost us two decent wingers, and while it is hard to part with good colleagues and excellent players, Corey Cowick joins our system on the farm at the right time of his career. With a little polish Corey may realize his dream of bringing some swagger into the GML in the not too distant future.
I would like to thank Vancouver for making this deal work, and for the time it took to make it just right. Updated Rosters will be forthcoming.
