Players who have stood out for the Washington Capitals the past couple nights:

Zack Kassian: Kassian has been developing within the Caps system for two full seasons now and the young power forward is hoping to finally make his mark now that he will be getting a full NHL season. The Ontario Native scored his second goal of the season by battling hard in front and has both a fight and a shootout winner on his early season resume to boot.

Brad Boyes: The former 40 goal scorer was the only offseason acquisition that the Capitals made this past offseason. Boyes signed a two year deal and is expected to play a leadership role on a very young and inexperienced team in Washington. He had by far his best game of the season tonight racking up a goal and two assists.

Sam Gagner: The former 6th overall draft pick in the 2007 NHL entry draft is off to a hot start this season with 3 points in 3 games. The most significant of his points came tonight when he notched the overtime winner on the powerplay to give his team the win. If the Capitals want to have a dynamic top 6 that can compete with the league's best, Gagner will have to be a consistent contributor centring the team's second line.

Devan Dubnyk: After a bysmal performance in his previous game, Dubnyk rebounded quite nicely only allowing one goal on 32 shots up against the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings. The young goaltender is doing everything in his power to prove that he should be the team's starter during veteran Miikka Kiprusoff's final year of his contract. Rumours have been swirling that one of the two goaltenders will be on their way out of Washington during the season and due to his age and cap hit, Dubnyk is expected to be the one staying put in the Nation's Capital.

Love seeing Patrick Marleau on top of the scoring list just behind Joe Thornton. With 6 goals in 3 games (2 per), he becomes the first person since Peter Stastny in 82-83 to start the year with 3 multi-goal games.

Assignment: The New York Rangers assign Jake Muzzin to the Connecticut Whale. In two games this year Jake Muzzin saw an average of 12 minutes of ice time, giving our coaching staff the look they needed to confirm Jake is a solid Dman who will be back this year in injury relief, no doubt. We are looking forward to a long working relationship with Jake here in our system, and wish we had the room to keep him up right now. Jake will be on the top pairing defensively for the Whale, with Ty Wishart, dropping Mike Moore down to Kent Huskins soon to be vacant spot. (thanks C2X)

2013/01/24: Jacob Muzzin made his season debut with the Rangers on Tuesday. He logged 15:23 of ice time and posted a shot during the team's 3-1 loss. Muzzin spoke to MSG NEWS Thursday morning about getting into the team's lineup and he had this to say: "It felt pretty good. I had a good week of practice going into it, so I'm feeling pretty confident, I'm excited, I thought I did pretty good, so I'm looking forward to tonight's game."

The Blackhawks are pleased with the start to our season , even though we lack really high end talent our players have meshed as a team ,and as we all know a champion team , will always beat a team of champions.

We would like to acknowlege the contribution of Carl gunnarson , who has really picked up his game.

Lets see if this layout works a bit smoother. Took out the hyperlink to team rosters, as it was interfering with fast layout re-use.
