I like how Quebec was left out of both comparisons

I paid them off.

Montreal
Burns-E. Johnson
Streit
- O'Byrne?

I admit that I have a hole in my top-4 at this time, as Ryan O'Byrne is slated to play on the 3rd-unit. I do think that my top-3 is pretty solid though, and I'm hopeful to find a solid #4 before the season starts.

Florida
OEL-Karlsson
Garrison-Justin Schultz

LA
Suter-J. Johnson
Giordano-Del Zotto

Vancouver
Chara-Pietrangelo
Voynov-Myers

Those are my top-3. Having said that, there are a lot of nice blue-lines out there.

Quiet time around the league, lets have a little debate.

Best top line in the CDCGML?

Detroit: Parise - Benn - Sharp
Boston: Sedin - Sedin - Stafford
Buffalo: Landeskog - Giroux - Williams
Edmonton: Pacioretty - B. Richards - Kovalchuk
Florida: van Reimsdyk - Toews - Neal
Los Angeles: St. Louis - M. Richards - Brown
New Jersey: Lucic - Kopitar - Ovechkin
NY Islanders: Zetterberg - Bergeron - Franzen
NY Rangers: Vanek - Thornton - Hudler
Pittsburgh: Hall - Malkin - Stamkos
St. Louis: Horton - Weiss - Iginla
San Jose: Semin - Spezza - Brodziak
Tampa Bay: Moulson - Tavares - Havlat
Toronto: Ryan - Stastny - Kessel
Vancouver: Duchene - Koivu - P. Kane
Washington: E. Kane - Datsyuk - Elias
Winnipeg: Wheeler - Crosby - Eberle

To me, there's Pittsburgh, then New Jersey, then everyone else.

I kick myself with my own bad luck. When I was invited to join this league, Pittsburgh was available. Sharpy was invited the same time as we and claimed the Pens just minutes before I did.

Well, I too am flattered to be near the top half of the league for 1st line comparisons, I guess it comes down to "out of all these lines, who would I trade my three guys for, strait up right now, if i had the choice"..since they are all good its hard to really quantify 'the best'...

...so I would trade my three guys strait up for one of these five....in no particular order of preference:
Boston, New Jersey, Buffalo, Edmonton, LA
SJ gets an honorable mention with the Semin addition.

And the final two are New Jersey and Boston...I can't decide if i want the twins more cuz they are Vancouvers guys or cuz they are back to back top forwards.....I will have to just say Sedin Sedin Stafford is the top line, very close 2nd is Lucic, Kopitar, Ovechkin

At least from my opinion, that is how i see it..we all have great top lines though. thus the 'top'.

Darn, and I was going to offer those three for your three. :(

So, the Isles may not have a top ranked 1st line but feel we have one of the best 2nd lines in the league.

Seguin - J Staal - Couture

IMHO this line would challenge the top line of half of the teams in the league.

Also, our top 4 D may not be rated up there with the best but we have as much young potential as any, and that by season end Elliott, B Smith ans Orlov could all be 30-40 point guys with D Hamilton a darkhorse to be the same.

I can honestly say that having the best top line doesn't mean anything without balance throughout the lineup. Look at the perennial contenders... The Isles have crazy depth all around, and very effective budget allocation throughout the lineup. His top forward is just over 6 mil, and have many good value contracts throughout the lineup.

Buffalo doesn't have any forwards over 5 mil, LA's got some top-6 guys on the 3rd line and 6 top-4 D-men, Washington's got like 5 good forward lines, and Curt just stacks Canucks :P

Precisely. I wouldn't take anyones word for whose is best anyways...its subjective, you could say 'who had last years best top line' because we had numbers for that..but going forward, its pure conjecture. The best player may be on a non contender, or total non playoff team in the NHL...making him worth less overall in our league. et cetera...

Balance is key, and getting your year long totals to a minimum of 5000 appears to be crucial. If your top line gets you 4000 and not a single point after that, your in trouble. Balance. Wax On, Wax Off.
