stawns
That would be a bold move by Minny, after just putting together a good looking lineup that can score and hopefully still defend. Josh Harding will be their starter soon, but he is not ready for full time work just yet. He's 41-51-8 in six seasons and came back from a serious injury just last year. That has to have had effect on his progress. And if I'm correct, Bäckström has just one year left on his deal. I think they'll have a look at how it goes this year and go from there with their goaltending situation next summer.

Spoosh
I think they will be desperate for another serviceable dman.........theyre right up against th cap now........a Backstrom to TO for Franson and Scrivens might work.
oldnews
Parise and Suter in Minny makes a big deal for top talent a must. Focus on Nash.
-Vintage Canuck-
The Canucks will likely go the trade route to find a center, and there hasn’t been much progress with a Luongo deal. http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Canucks+short+free+agent+options+centre/6879002/story.html
stawns
It might work as a deal. But they can count themselves out of the playoffs if they go with a Harding - Scrivens duo in net. That's the problem.
Spoosh
they've kind of paibted themselves into a corner with this Suter/Parise deal........their defense is atrocious, but they have a pretty good goaltending tandem, but if their defense is that bad, good goalies might not matter much. On the flip side, if they move Backstrom for a top 4 dman, then their goaltending might let them down. tough call.
JLumme
I hope Gillis is in talks with Anaheim. Lou would be a good fit there, they've got lots of good assets to trade (Ryan!) that we could use, what's not to like?

JLumme
I don't see Anaheim trading a 25 year old star powerforward for a 33 year old goaltender. Luongo isn't that much better than Hiller to put them over the top. If Ryan's going anywhere, it would likely be somewhere like Chicago for Patick Kane, Philly for Coutourier and picks, or Buffalo for Ennis. DeNiro
Its been pretty widely reported that Ryan is unhappy in Anaheim. Lou is a big step up from Hiller IMO. It would need some more parts to the deal to get done, but it doesn't seem too far fetched.

Canucks_fo_life
Panthers prepare for Luongo Roberto Luongo spent five seasons with the Florida Panthers before moving on to Vancouver. Now it looks like he's heading back. (Photo by Mark Konezny/NHLImages) Lyle Richardson 2012-07-04 11:30:00 Speculation that Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo is headed back to Florida continues to percolate. Luongo, who played five seasons with the Panthers before being shipped to the Canucks in 2006, is thought to look favorably on a trade back to his old club. Miami Herald writer and THN correspondent George Richards recently reported via Twitter the word on the street was the Panthers were internally preparing for Luongo's return. That opinion was echoed by Mike Berardino of theSun-Sentinel, who cited a Panthers source claiming time was on their side in regards to a Luongo acquisition. Berardino claimed there's a strong sense, privately and publicly, a Luongo reunion will happen. Berardino does, however, point out the obvious stumbling blocks. Panthers GM Dale Tallon isn't keen to part with promising prospects and Luongo's return would create a logjam in goal. Jose Theodore and the recently re-signed Scott Clemmensen is their current tandem, while blue-chipper Jacob Markstrom (No. 8 overall in THN’s Future Watch) remains in the wings. Theodore or Clemmensen would have to be moved, while Markstrom would remain buried in the minors for another season. The Panthers ownership would have to be willing to take on Luongo's big contract, which has 10 more years remaining, at a cap hit of $5.3 million per season. It’s assumed Tallon would prefer the Canucks take back some salary in return. It remains to be seen if the Canucks summer waiting game ends with ‘Bobby Lu’ going to Florida, another NHL team or if he remains in Vancouver. http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/47951-Panthers-prepare-for-Luongo.html

DeNiro
If we have to take a salary dump back, I wonder if Upshall could help pursuade Doan to sign with us since they were teammates for 2 and a half seasons. Not sure if they were friends at all, but it's possible. Upshall can always be put on waivers if he struggles.
Sageofwisdom
Since Gillis took Schneids to qualifying offer (whatever that means), how much time does this buy the Canucks. I know people can't throw offer sheets on Jul 1st.
