Is it possible that Gaunce is the most NHL ready player in the draft?

I think he reminds me a lot of Ryan Kesler. Remember when we drafted Kesler they said he would be a solid career 3rd liner?
Similar descriptions of Gaunce and Kesler as they're both regarded as strong 2 way centres with lots of character and skill.

kesler has elite speed.

He trains in the Gary Roberts nutrition program. RIFT!!!

The key difference is that Sopel can fill in for Seabrook and Campbell just fine. Bieksa, he is garbage so in that sense he is like the worst defenseman in the league.

When Cody (Hodgson) gets older, he might be better than Datsyuk.

Let's not push this guy (Kassian). He's still immature, and if he fails on the 2nd line it's because he isn't ready. Some guys really need years to develop, it's how well and how fast players adapt to the game. In my opinion, I'd rather have Horvat getting 2nd line minutes. He will start off on the 3rd line next season but I see him making the transition, being a great compliment to whoever plays his wings.

At this point, I don't see Kassian fitting in to any role other than a 3rd. If players like Kassian start getting 2nd line minutes then we just stay inconsistent as a team.

The idiocy on CDC....

apparently he was one of the fastest at the top prospects testing, and one of the strongest at the combine. good stuff, i have a feeling people will harp on his skating, much like cody, but it won't be a real issue (much like cody)

Didn't know much about this pick but am excited to see his potential develop in the next few years. I find it interesting that Hockey's Future 2012 Mock Draft had him go #11 to Washington.

http://www.hockeysfu...aff-mock-draft/

11. Washington Capitals (from Colorado Avalanche)
Brendan Gaunce, C, Belleville Bulls (OHL)
Though there are still plenty of good defensive prospects left, the Caps already have capable young defensemen at the NHL level and can still pick one up with the 16th overall pick. With the inevitable departure of aging Knuble what the Caps really need is a two-way power forward that can play a supporting role in the top-six. A unique center that possesses size, skill, and a power game, Gaunce can provide that and much more.
Other potential picks: Cody Ceci, Radek Faksa, Derrick Pouliot, Olli Maatta, Zemgus Girgensons.

At 207 lb's at such a young age and being in Gary Robert's nutrient program, he could get even bigger. He seems like the big, 2-way player with soft hands.

I'm pleased he fell to us. You can't go wrong drafting big @ centre ice. This kid shares alot of similarities with Hodgson. Hopefully no crazy Dad.

Didn't know anything about Gaunce. Thanks everyone for the good info on our newest Canuck. From his description here he sounds like just what the doctor ordered. Finally, along with last years pick of Labate, we are stocking up with gritty, power forward prospects that can play at the center position.

he's actually 215, according to most sites. 207 is probably out of date.

Figured he would go quite a bit higher so I didn't read much about him. Will be really cool to see if he can reach his potential. The neat thing about him is that his skill set is one that could actually allow him to break into the league first as a defensive center so who knows...maybe we'll see him in a Canucks uniform sooner rather than later!

Yeah. So much for Gillis saying after the Bruins series that there wouldn't be any changes to his philosophy of building a team. Obviously the loss stung hard and he made an equally hard right turn to make the team bigger.

This guy seems like a safe pick. A bottom 6 checker (as Kesler was once regarded) who may surprise and develop into a solid two-way top six player.

He was ranked 12th at mid ranking. Much more solid pick then someone like colton Scissions. 6'2 215 pounds, solid 2way player, a long ways from the NHL,has the speed to burn, we'll see what happens at training camp.

Players Nikolaj Ehlers have been compared too by the fan base of the Vancouver Canucks.

1 Pavel Bure

2 Markus Naslund

3 Nathan Mackkinon

4 Jonathan Drouin.

5 Jonathan Tavares

You can add in Grenier and Labate in a few years time...

This team will be young, massive and hopefully mean.

Where's my main man Miller??!!?

Let's get some Miller time going in this thread!

Honestly, I know almost nothing about this particular player but I like the reputed positive character traits (can't see a guy like this whining about icetime) and the player style comparisons. Dubinsky, Staal (poor man's version), & Ryan O'Reilly. Looks like a perfect fit for our 3rd line duties and it sounds like he'll be NHL ready in a year or two (or three at the latest).

apparently he was one of the fastest at the top prospects testing, and one of the strongest at the combine. good stuff, i have a feeling people will harp on his skating, much like cody, but it won't be a real issue (much like cody)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqHYRewdmy8

Jordan Staal's speed and agility in tight spaces was also questioned when he was drafted. Hopefully Gaunce is powerful enough to play through those weaknesses like Staal did.

Kassian.... Taylor Pyatt 3.0

Lies. He's more of a Steve Bernier. Hopefully his talent level goes up so he can become like a Taylor Pyatt.

He's surprisingly good at interviews. Most of these prospects aren't. Maybe that's a sign of his maturity.

I was hoping the Canucks would draft him or Collberg, so I have no complaints. I didn't think he would be available at 26.

It's also good to see that he willingly sticks up for his teammates.
