Welcome Gauncer [Gone-tcher] (dubbing the nickname now).

Can't wait for the trade rumours to start.

Lol wow guys every draftee gets a 12 cause of the draft year, calm down

Why would they even bother mentioning it then...?

Gilman went out of his way to make a little speech about it... saying they've never given a retired number to another player etc etc

Yes I'm aware of what year it is  I just thought it was somewhat odd for him to come out and announce it on such a grand stage when he simply could have just talked to Smyl beforehand and said "hey it's just the way the draft is this year, he's just getting it for the day"...

It's not like anyone outside of Vancouver knows Smyl wore #12, nevermind that it's retired. Smells odd to me...

I am so pumped about this pick, a big Canadian boy, that can score, and plays physical. Thank you MG for making this pick.

Just took a peek at a few sites with their mock drafts, looks like we got a great value pick, Gaunce was ranked as high as 12, and 20th being the lowest. Can't wait to see the kid in action, from i've read, his skating sucks, a real lunch bucket guy that wins faceoffs, great defensively, and apparently his wrist shot is a sight to behold. Has a lot of intangibles suggests he might be captain material as well

I guess the number thing was a big deal to Hodgson so they took care of business right off the bat this time.

Silly. Smyl shouldn't have to be asked until Gaunce made the team.

Hmmm.... no pictures of him wearing #12?

Wow, I hoped we would get Gaunce, but thought he would be long gone by the time we picked. International Scouting Service had
him ranked at No. 7 and the Hockey News at No. 17

I can't believe he was still available at 26th. Absoluetely thrilled Canucks picked him.

Was hoping Lou would've been traded traded by now.

a centre? seriously..

What's wrong with that? We aren't necessarily stacked at center and it's one of the most important positions.

What a joke, then Phoenix gets Samuelsson to put salt in the wounds...

FOR ONCE I wanted a player to be excited about....is it so much to ask.

you're upset about getting a 6'2, 215 centerman scoring at a ppg pace in the OHL at #26? Seriously?

First draft you've ever watched? Welcome to 2012. Every player gets a jersey with their draft year. Meaning 12.

Why is anybody talking about the number thing?
They're all #12, the Canucks just used this as an opportunity to honour the Steamer, nothing more.

Unreal pick, was pissed we were going to miss on him because of the Pres. Trophy.

Perfect selection and BPA.

Samuelsson is rated as having a high hockey IQ but labours and is very sluggish on the ice

Thanks but I'll pass

Also, did all the teams' jerseys have and apostrophe before the #12 or was it something that we did to differentiate from Smyl's #12?

The guy reminds me a lot of a Cody Hodgson without the ego. Both were touted for their balanced skillset and below average skating. Hodgson is obviously more skilled (leading to the ego issues), but Gaunce looks like a perfect third line centre in the future, with no complaints because he's supposed to be a character kind of guy anyways.

Maybe as a bit of a tribute to the guy that wore number 12 and has been with the organization since he was drafted. Perhaps because it is the first time a retired number has ever been given out by the Canucks at a draft. Your panties seem to be wound way to tight.

What a steal of a pick! I was hoping we would get him the second the hapless Flames drafted Jankowski. The centre position is the most valuable position and Brenden Gaunce will surely give Ryan Kesler a run for his money in a couple years.

We needed a Center prospect badly... I guess the ISS's highest ranking center (and 5th highest ranked forward) will do =)

You never know how a pick will turn out. But I do think this is a good one. Worst case I think he'll be a great third line center.

Very similar to Johansen(sp?) From Columbus. Great pick Gillis.

Jensen-Gaunce-2013 pick?
