Odds on Gaunce being traded within 3 years for a winger?

Not really familiar with Gaunce, but seeing how everyone is so happy we got him, I was wondering if he has a chance to replace Kesler while he is injured...

you're upset about getting a 6'2, 215 centerman scoring at a ppg pace in the OHL at #26? Seriously?

Just think, when this kid stops growing, he will be 6'4" and about 230. This could be a great pick. Just to think, now that Arniel is in Chicago, he will have a good chance to develop.

I think that might be the plan longterm at least. Kesler is on a downwards spiral and Gaunce seems like he can take over in a few years.

Have a feeling this is gonna be a boom or bust pick. Seems to have great character after reading that article.

Kesler is 26, he's not slowing down for another 7-9 years. Gaunce solidifies our 3rd line for years to come.

Very similar to Johansen(sp?) From Columbus. Great pick Gillis.

Jensen-Gaunce-2013 pick?

Didn't the TSN box during the pick have him compared to J Stahl? This could turn out to be the steal of the draft. Of course, Hodgson falling into the Nucks laps was supposed to be the steal of that draft

Not sure why the team would consider such a thing.

Odds people pretending to be canuck fans/12year old trolls will call him a bust after playing 44 games or less in the nhl like kassian

Good choice, but was hoping for a local boy Sissons who was one rank below gaunce in the nhl final north american skaters rankings

TSN compares everyone to a current NHL stat. Just because they compared him to Staal, doesn't mean he will be as good. It's just a comparison of their styles. If he turns out as good as Staal I will be surprised and very happy.

The prototype of the young center the Canucks needed. I think the Canucks were very fortunate he was still available.

Some odd picks in this draft thankfully - thought Samuelsson would be the best center available at 26, but Gaunce has size, two way hockey sense/intelligence, is physical, good in the face-off circle, and has the intangible, character - all things that make him a very good prospect to solidify the third line center position and attributes that could allow him to make the team at a younger age than most prospects...

Very surprised Calgary did not take him, considering their weakness up the middle...

Couldn't have hoped for a better outcome at 26.

Samuelsson will bust. Gaunce has a much better work ethic. I wouldn't be surprised if he made the World Juniors team next year.

Imagine if this young center has true leadership qualities.... comes in, respects the veteran centers ahead of him, improves, plays his role and doesn't complain - could be a significant upgrade over the player it sounds like you are implying/referring to.

you know what I like about big forwards drafted in the entry draft if they turn out a bust they could always be 3 line grinder who could score if he is a success he will be a nasty power forward that everyone wants

There's always the chance he's around when the Canucks pick in the second.

Edit: With the 57th pick I doubt he will still be around.

Yeah, sorry missed that. Comparing style of play, or type of player? If he turns out as good as Staal, there will be a lot of happy Canuck fans

umm Kesler will be 28 in 2 months and given his style of play, he probably won't be very effective after the age of 33. He is having another off-season surgery so I don't see him regaining form anytime soon. Don't be surprised if Gaunce takes over in 2-3 years.

For folks freaking we haven't gotten a right handed D-man.

Damon Severson of the Kelowna Rockets is projected around 45th pick. Maybe we can trade up or luck out.

First draft you've ever watched? Welcome to 2012. Every player gets a jersey with their draft year. Meaning 12.

I predict a MASSIVE, unrecoverable board crash on or about four years from today.

Yes, and we are looking for a righthanded d-men a little sooner than a draft pick will provide - Gaunce on the other hand probably won't take nearly as much time to develop as a young blueliner would...

We still have the trade route and free agency to acquire an NHL ready defenseman.
