Breakdown of Luongos "Poor Play" vs LA

Let me break down Luongos ”Poor Play" vs LA.

Game 1: LA’s first goal by Mike Richards. 5 on 3 PP, Canucks failed to clear the puck off the draw, but can you blame anyone who’s killing the penalty’s?

Game 1: LA’s second goal by Willie Mitchell. Stoll standing right in front of Luongo screening him with nobody there to knock him out of the way. Daniel Sedin slowly skating towards Stoll when its too late.

Game 1: LA’s third goal. Defence was spun around into the ice and honestly that was a sick goal that no goalie could stop.

Game 1: LA’s fourth goal. All Luongos fault, he wasn’t even in the net! What was he doing on the bench? Another bathroom break!?

Game 2: LA’s first goal. BRUTAL giveaway by Edler, I don’t know where the heck his head was on this play when he sees an LA player approaching that close. An AMAZING deke by Koptiar just tools Raymond and beats Luongo, in which Brown finishes off the loose puck. Oh and guess what? It wa a SHG!

Game2: LA’s second goal. ANOTHER SHORTHANDED GOAL. Brutal slip by Hamhuis which gave Brown a free breakaway and he potted it into the net with a nice move.

Game 2: LA’s third goal by Stoll. I can’t even tell what happens here, but Canucks need to get somebody who can take control of the crease area.

Game 2: LA’s fourth goal. Another giveaway results in a goal where the defence is just diving all over the place.

In conclusion I say the defence choked not Roberto Luongo. Our goaltending is great but our real improvements need to be made to out defence and top 6 scoring, we often come up dry when needed.

On the first goal Lu kind of cheated and I think he was anticipating the cross-crease pass and that left space for RIchards to shoot in. Sort of like how Perry scored on Lu in the last game vs Anaheim and when Wheeler scored on Schneider in the Jets game. But then again, there's not much a goalie can do about that. On the fourth goal, Lu just lay down on his Belly and he should have gotten back up. Falling on his belly is his worst bad habit.

However, most of those goals were caused by turnovers (especially Eddie due to his unravelling and terrible confidence), failure to clear move the puck up, crashing the crease or failing to clear it and LA PP's.

Most of these goals were caused by bad team play that probably was already occurring in reg. season (can't remember if true, season too long ago). We won because we weren't playing good teams all the time, playoffs games are different, shootouts and that two goalies were constantly bailing us out. All of this just became exposed by a very good LA team that was already in playoffs gear in March.

Yep...the skaters really got a pass from the blind Lu/AV haters. Not even the idiot local sports media hinted at it at seasons end.

Had they been defensively cohesive as they showed the previous season, and of course totally healthy, it would have been a different run this past year.

The team plays better, more confident in front of Schneider than they do Luongo, for whatever reason, but even so, Schneider is still the better goalie and it's time for better talent and youth to take over. There was definite notice that the team played better when Schneider was in net in games 3, 4 and 5, and IMO, if Schneider had started the series, it would have been a different, maybe same outcome but longer series.
