Boudrias
We can't just sign everyone because they're nice guys and played hard for Canucks. Everyone wants to keep Edler, we already have Bieksa and Hamhuis as locks, Ballard is still under contract, we still have Alberts, and our D sucks. If we sign Salo to play a regular spot there is no way we can improve without trading someone away.

Canucksbiggestfan
I would believe that Tanev would be moving as well. My problem with Tanev is size more than anything. Veery smart with the puck but he can be outmuscled on the boards. In playoffs he will be eaten alive.
Tragoedia
meh....i want some new blood running through the line up 1yr/1m...i wouldnt go much higher, he is a third pairing defenseman at best now a days
votrechien
Sami played more games last year than almost any other and had his 3rd most goals. He deserves another season.

Canuck Surfer
Tanev was, is, and always will be expendable. His value, which is not insignificant, is that he is an extremely steady and composed depth defender who helps move the puck out of our end. But only against 2knd tier match ups... Tanev recorded somthing like 22 hits last year, he is completely non physical, and his size is a concern considering his role. He also has no blinding speed or puck handling skill (althoug a good passer), nor own a big shot. He has no substantial upside offensively. He is a valuable line up filler until we find a big stud defensive D, then either a trade assett or depth guy for injuries. Nothing more. exactly if we do sign schultz that makes tanev "expendable" if you will.....we could go after ryan, weber or any other high priced talented players
SpursCanuck
To old.... We need to get younger, drop Salo and play Tanev with Ballard or free agent Garrison/Allen.
Alex the Great
I honestly don't really want Salo back, and I'm lmao at all of the people that are pencilling in Schultz already, When did we sign him? haha

Gollumpus
Salo, getting $2 million and circulating in the 5, 6, 7, 8 spots (makes it sound like a lead-in to a Broadway musical number) would be a great use of cap space and give the team some pretty good depth in this area. A d-corps of Ballard, Bieksa, Edler, Hamhuis, Salo, and Tanev, with Garrison and Schultz (assuming they do sign here), would be somewhat better than last year. I'd still like some more size/toughness/grit than what would be added by the new guys. If the team does plan to get bigger then this might lead to Ballard getting moved. regards, G. DownUndaCanuck
Salo must be used sparingly. He of all the Canucks needs to be managed properly because he is our best defenceman in small spurts and one of our worst when he plays 60+ games. 2 playoffs ago he was outstanding and carried us in the first 2 rounds from the blueline, exploding against the Sharks, and that was because he spent most of the season injured and resting. This season he plays plenty of games (60+) and struggled in the playoffs as a result. It's simple, his body CANNOT take anywhere near close to 20 minutes a game for 80 games. AV needs to play him on our bottom pairing for 13-16 minutes a night, and mostly on the powerplay, not penalty kill which is too strenuous on his body. We have more shutdown guys like Bieksa, Hamhuis and even Edler who can throw their bodies on the line on the PK, we don't need Salo getting worn out then. Ideally: Hamhuis - Bieksa (23 minutes each) Edler - Garrison (Edler = 24 mins, Garrison = 20 mins) Salo - Schultz/Tanev/Ballard/Alberts (15 minutes each) PP1:Edler - Salo PP2:Garrison - Bieksa/Hamhuis Give or take a minute or two either way per game depending on special teams and that is how you manage your defence - guys in their prime who are still young playing the most, younger guys playing a little less and older guys playing the least but more specialised roles.
