I honestly don't really want Salo back,

and I'm lmao at all of the people that are pencilling in Schultz already, When did we sign him? haha

If I may ask,

Why wouldn't you want him back?

Sami Salo with his 25 points @ 2 mil per year?

Sergei Gonchar with his 37 points @ 5.5 mil per year?

Hmm, tough call.

Salo, getting $2 million and circulating in the 5, 6, 7, 8 spots (makes it sound like a lead-in to a Broadway musical number) would be a great use of cap space and give the team some pretty good depth in this area.

A d-corps of Ballard, Bieksa, Edler, Hamhuis, Salo, and Tanev, with Garrison and Schultz (assuming they do sign here), would be somewhat better than last year.

I'd still like some more size/toughness/grit than what would be added by the new guys. If the team does plan to get bigger then this might lead to Ballard getting moved.

Following the Canucks since before Don Cherry played here.

Salo can not skate , does not hit , however he does have a big shot. I would not want him back.

Salo must be used sparingly. He of all the Canucks needs to be managed properly because he is our best defenceman in small spurts and one of our worst when he plays 60+ games. 2 playoffs ago he was outstanding and carried us in the first 2 rounds from the blueline, exploding against the Sharks, and that was because he spent most of the season injured and resting.

This season he plays plenty of games (60+) and struggled in the playoffs as a result. It's simple, his body CANNOT take anywhere near close to 20 minutes a game for 80 games.

AV needs to play him on our bottom pairing for 13-16 minutes a night, and mostly on the powerplay, not penalty kill which is too strenuous on his body. We have more shutdown guys like Bieksa, Hamhuis and even Edler who can throw their bodies on the line on the PK, we don't need Salo getting worn out then.

Hamhuis - Bieksa (23 minutes each)
Edler - Garrison (Edler = 24 mins, Garrison = 20 mins)
Salo - Schultz/Tanev/Ballard/Alberts (15 minutes each)

PP1:Edler - Salo
PP2:Garrison - Bieksa/Hamhuis

Give or take a minute or two either way per game depending on special teams and that is how you manage your defence - guys in their prime who are still young playing the most, younger guys playing a little less and older guys playing the least but more specialised roles.
