Pavel's time here was always going to be cut short because of this: The low Canadian dollar.

If he was here today, he'd likely have stayed.

Bure wasn't the only small market, low Canadian dollar star to leave, y'know.

There are other, lesser reasons for his departure, but the main one of course was money. Florida paid Bure a higher salary back then than what the highest-paid Canuck ever got paid recently.

That being said, it's well past time to bury the hatchet and bring him back home. Thank you.

I would love to retire Bure's #10, but it would kind of seem silly to do it now. Everyone will say "oh reitring Bure's jersey now that he's a hall of famer, Vancouver?" And things like that.

Although I know you are no fan of WC, if you know anything at all about Wetcoaster, you know that he always has presented any and ALL information without partiality. It's the lawyer in him as has been evidenced for years on this board. WC also has insights into player/agent/hockey organizations that we are not privy to. And I'll leave it at that.

By the way, isn't that a contradiction right there? Isn't a lawyer's job to present only the information that favours his client, and not that that works against them?

His first post (didn't read his second--too long) seems like a laundry list of why everybody but Pavel were to blame.

Although there have been former Vancouver Canucks players who have been inducted in the Hall (Igor Larionov (Det), Cam Neely (Bos), Mark Messier (NYR), Mats Sundin (Tor)), Pavel Bure will be the first player inducted as a Vancouver Canucks. Congrats to Bure. Well deserved!

The exchange is on NHL.com's main page. You can access the video by clicking on the headline. It really is quite fabulous.

Pat Quinn: Vladimir, we want to get a hold of Pavel because he has been selected for entrance into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

*pause*

Vladimir Bure: (in broken English) H-h-he's selected for Hall of Fame?!?!!

Quinn: He has been, yes!

Every time he touched the puck the electricity in the building would rise in anticipation . Or even just watching at home on TV you sat on the edge of your seat because something was going to happen. No other Canuck has ever had the same effect.

Sometimes when the WCE were on the ice and now with the Sedins I almost get the same feeling but nothing like Bure. Simply the best to wear the jersey.

WOW, i posted yesterday IIRC and said there's no way they'd ever let him in.

Huge honour for him and his family. He was my favourite player next to Trevor.

Big surprise, and definitely well deserved.

Congratulations Pavel - you're probably the most exciting player to ever wear a Canucks jersey - you played with enthusiasm and heart - your induction into the Hall of Fame is the appropriate tribute to your career. Thanks. Wish you had a 20 year old...

Did I hear the words "Without you, I wouldn't get there. Thank you very much." from Pavel to Pat Quinn?

Sounds like their enmity isn't quite as bad as some people make it out to be.

What great news this is for our franchise and for Pavel!

Bure was the most exciting player the Canucks have ever had playing for them, bar none. It is a shame that he left the way he did, or his number would be in the rafters already.

Pavel came into the league when I was 11 and is basically solely responsible for making me the insane hockey fanatic that I am today. I knew next to nothing about hockey before that (I grew up with Britsih parents and was more into soccer and rugby at the time). To this day, no hockey player has given me the same excitement that Bure did.

I hope the Canucks do the right thing and retire his number. It has been long enough, the wounds have healed.....

Pavel going into the freaking HHOF is not a 2nd page item on CDC. I cannot believe the apathy towards managements obvious snub of the greatest player in franchise history.

Pleased to see Bure finally inducted into the HHOF, now it puts the pressure on the Canucks organization to do something similar. And something tells me that a simple 'ring of honor' won't cut it anymore.

Also, it's nice to see former Canuck Mats Sundin go in as well. I've always been thankful he chose to come and join our team, albeit for a short stint.

OMG SUNDIN.

The goal against NJ which starts at about 2:58 is my personal favourite. I love that he beats Scott Niedermayer, Scott Stevens, Claude Lemieux, and Chris Tererri all, on the same play. I was at that game, as well as the pre-season game against Boston where he went skate to stick, not to mention the series clinching goal against Dallas in 94 where he beats Moog on the breakaway. Like I said above, Bure is responsible for some of the greatest moments and highlight reel goals in Canucks history and for me personally... what a player
