Is this based on the success he had as the Moose head coach?

Don Hay's most experience with the Canucks: Being in the same city

Scott Arneil's most experience with the Canucks: Coaching Manitoba Moose for 4 seasons including a Calder Cup final, credited with turning a moody, non-motivated goaltender into one of the best young goaltenders in the NHL.

After a shaky start to the 2007–08 season (3-7-0 record, 3.69 GAA and .872 save percentage in 11 games), he was privately called out by head coach Scott Arniel in mid-December after being pulled the previous game. In recalling the meeting, Schneider has commented that "[Arniel] was one of the first guys to...tell me I wasn't good enough, something that I hadn't really heard a lot growing up. Sometimes it's something you need to hear." From that point on, he emerged as Manitoba's starting goalie over fellow Canucks prospect Drew MacIntyre, and was named the AHL Rookie of the Month for March. He finished the season with a 21-12-2 record, 2.28 GAA and .916 save percentage.

Hmm, yeah, shoulda picked Don Hay.

No kidding. Why go to Chicago to coach in the AHL when you pretty much have a job for life coaching the Giants?

If someone wants him to coach in the NHL again one day, and if he decides he wants to coach in the NHL again, I am sure he won't need to go to through the AHL to get there.

haha it's 3:06 in the morning here only reason this is funny.. man, now I have to stay up a little more.

Arniel is one of the smartest moves ive seen the Canucks make in recent times. Great with prospects and has been a key factor to most of our cores development and becoming the players they are today. He did a great job in Manitoba and he couldn't really do anything but lose in Columbus.

Hay's success at the junior level did not translate to success at the NHL level. Some guys are good at preparing kids to be pros and other guys are good at coaching men at the pro level. Hay is in the first group. You "Fire AV" people are dense as fog and dumber than dirt. AV has the best record of any coach in Canucks history. Gillis believes AV is the right guy. Who are we to argue with Gillis?

He has said this numerous times.

He loves the Giants and the work he does with the youngsters there. It's like Dale Hunter and the London Knights.

Canucks brass know what they're doing. Relax

Don Hay only wants a job as a head coach in the NHL

A while back he refused an offer to be an assistant coach of the Oilers (yes it is the Oilers, but they are still an NHL team) and an article was written about how he decided to stay with the Giants unless he got an offer to be the head coach of an NHL team

Bad thread is bad. Little early to be throwing a retirement party for our coach is it not?

Maybe Don Hay likes the job he has.

Pretty much, he's already coached in the NHL and has said outright he prefers coaching in junior.

Another 5 star thread from yete.

If you think the Canucks need Hay, you're smoking too much Grass.....
Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!
