How can people say that Luongo has had a better career than Schneider!?
Well yeah he has...because he's older and he's played longer

That's like saying "my 5 year old kid is a failure because he can't count to 100 and my 12 year old can"

Let's give Schneider a chance. There's a good chance he'll be on Team USA in 2014.

I said this because a poster said what had Luongo done to be proven.

At thr end of next season, you'll be saying how much of a steal he is. ;)

Hope so. Don't get me wrong he has shown amazing potential and is a great goalie. Just concerned that the Canucks can't afford 1-2 seasons for him to get used to the workload. Love him or hate him Lu is an elite goalie that has proven he can handle the pressure and the workload.

Kind of hard to do when he has yet to play more than 35 games in a season. I hope you aren't expecting him to be perfect all year that is an unfair expectation

lol. he didn't play 6 games more you don't know if he's good!!!

You luongo cheerleaders are already tearing him down, and chomping at the bit to do it more so this season.

Why do the fans of this team have to choose one goalie to hate and one to love?I love having Luongo and Schneider on our team and I know that we will probably have to get rid of one, but this is the best goalie tandem we have ever had and most people can't respect that. Most people can't respect what Luongo has done for this team. All Ihave to say is it will be a tough and sad day when/if Luongo is traded.

Interesting timing. To me it means, a Lu deal is pretty close (if not already) done. If he was still 'working' on a Lu deal, Gillis would likely have postponed this Schneider news as long as possible. Since Gillis announced it well before July 1, and well before he was open to offer sheets, I think we'll hear about about Lu deal soon.

Nah, Schneider's deal was top priority for Gillis regardless of how trade talks are going with Luongo. It was imperative to get Cory signed before July 1st so as not to be forced to match an offer sheet they would rather not match.

Not saying a Lu deal isn't potentially close (how would I know either way?), just saying the two aren't linked.

OK, some of you are hating Cory already because he's not a "proven" number one goalie. If you look at the Luongo and Schneider's first couple of seasons...the amount of game is almost the same, yes the teams in front are different in skill (by a long shot), CS's stats are incredibly higher. So before you hate CS, do some research, no offence intended!!!

God, the mindset on here is ridiculous. It seems like you either have to be a hater or a fanboy...Is there no in between?

Just because some fans are worried that this is a risky move going from a goalie with a proven track record as a number 1, to one who has only played 68 games as a backup, doesn't mean they're hating on him. They're just cautious about getting overly excited.

Obviously if Schneider can play with the consistency and poise that he did as a backup, we're going to be very solid in net. But unless you have a crystal ball, that hasn't been proven.

You're right, we are what we are still because of Luongo: a team that has never won the stanley cup.

Don't know if Schneider would've been offered much more in an offersheet. Maybe a year or two more, but a higher cap hit? Doubtful.

Just waiting now on Canucks grooming the new Cory Schneider - Eddie Lack. In 2 years when the Canucks are eliminated for 3rd straight years in the 1st round, Eddie Lack becomes the most popular Canuck.

You all know its gonna happen. The back-up is always the favourite when it comes to Vancouver

Watch Bowness somehow mess up Tampa Bay's already amazing 2 powerplay units...he'll probably tell Stamkos to do drop passes from centre ice, take him out from the faceoff dot, and place him infront of the goalie

Luongo - can't play in the afternoon, chokes in the Wild, Blackhawks and Boston arenas. Has taken periods of time off during the season to see his wife in Florida, which after 6 years refuses to move to Vancouver. Has a horrendous shootout record and has cataclysmal chokes in the playoffs. Luongo has also patented the flop move, which enables him to go from a 6 foot goalie to a 1 foot goalie instantaniously.

Schneider - 26, plays whenever, no wife or family to worry about and has yet to show a flaw in his game. He has a degree and is extremely intelligent and mature.

I'll take Schneider anyday.

you just sum it all up for me schneider>luongo

If the contract hasn't even been filed with the NHL yet, how do these insiders know the term?

I mean, Gillis has been pretty tight lipped about this, it's kind of weird that this information would slip out only a few hours after they agreed to the contract.

All I'm saying is, these insiders have been known to get the term or salary wrong. It may come out that it was a 4 year contract, or that the salary was slightly lower.

If Lu goes to FLA, they will be going to the SCF very soon. They will be like the Kings this year if/when they do make a run.

A solid 4 line team, with solid defense and goaltending and just all hard work.

Not many significant pieces, and they still have a few good young players. I would be shocked if Gillis could get Gudbranson out of FLA for LU.

Cory FANS WIN but yeah cory overall doesnt win until he brings the cup here. My critique of Canucks goalies will stay the same. He better not choke in the playoffs unlike another goalie whose name is Roberto.

Well I'm glad we got him signed longer than a year!! But guys lets try not to flame him the minute he has a bad game as our official starter. I know we all want the best but no goalies perfect. We over hype every goalie and when they dont please us, we boo them out of Vancouver. But saying that Im optimistic he will be our guy and we will thrive under him!

Jensen > Kassian
Gillis dropped the ball on the Hodgson trade.
If Kassian ever becomes a 30 goal scorer I will pierce my nipples.

Me too, but it's just not going to work if Cory keeps playing at such a high level. Even if Lu was okay with backing up, people would still rip on him and say he's just wasting cap space.

Well deserved, really happy for him. He will be a star in this league“@brandynbertrand:what do you think of Schneiders' new contract?”

I just can't see how there are Luongo fans.

Corey will probably be criticized and looked at lot closer at then Luongo now if he is the guy no doubt, becuase their is a divide. Every goal will be analyzed.
