Initial thoughts, good timing and contract by Gillis.

Was concerned he get a long term contract and there's always a possibility he can't live up to it (you never know). 3 yrs will give him time to prove himself as starter, then get paid if he's earned it. $4M is good cap hit considering they've bought 2 yrs of UFA & compared to Rasks $3.5M and no UFA yrs bought out.

No offer sheets for the suckas who thought about it :) (Heres lookin' at u Burke)

It's a business, Luongo had his chance to bring us the cup. We didnt win it in 6 years with him, we had 4 amazing teams in that period.

Time to give Schneider a shot to do what Luongo couldn't, win the 7th game.

Looks like this is an end to the Luongo era with all the speculation that surrounds him being traded. I'm seriously going to miss you Lou, great goalie and an even greater guy.

Here's to new beginnings and let's treat Schneider the way Luongo should've been treated during his whole tenure with the Canucks. We have a real star goal-tender with us now and it's time we treat him with respect and learn our lesson from last time.

I was hoping the term would be a bit longer, but at least we can let Schneider test the waters without being tied down to him.

personally...i'd rather have luongo

reason is because i think the canucks play better in front of schneider because he doesn't have as much experience in big games..
as long as the canucks play well in front of luongo i think the team would be better...

you people may get mad at me for saying this but this is my opinion.. :)

But unfortunately they don't play better in front of Luongo.

I know this is typical of a Canucks fan but now that Luongo basically has one foot out the door, I'm starting to freak out a bit. Watching some of these tribute videos that people have put together makes me realize how much he's been through with this Canucks organization. From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. Hard to picture him tending goal anywhere but here.

Exactly right?

LOL: CDC Petition to keep Luongo and Schneider...."We...Are....The 63%" (*that is the minimum percentage of wins the tandem of both goalies would bring Vancouver next year.) "We Are The 63%"

Heya MG, ill "be happy" if the team's excellent goalie tandem is intact next season.

Either way, excellent news.

With Luongo having 10 years left on his deal and Cory signing 3 years for 4 mil cap hit, there's no way. This Cory's chance to prove he's the legit #1 before he get's his Quick/Rinne deal.

i dont know how this means either are going this year. Gilly still has to wait for the right deal.

Having said this, I would imagine in order to get him to sign the deal he probably told have him a verbal agreement he was gonna start somewhere in the near future.

And why does everyone have to bicker about who they like more between Lu and Cory? I love both of them. But above all else I love the team and whoever fetches a bigger return for the value should go. I've never wanted one to go and the other to stay.. I just think our team would be better off with only 1 starting goalie. You don't think it throws Lu off knowing that if he makes one mistake he wont play next game? Everyone was saying how valuable a goalie tandem is, but I have argued since the deadline it would be better to just roll with one and take our chances with the injures. It is nice we got to showcase Cory in the loffs tho. Its not about one being way better, it all depends on whats coming back. Right now it doesn't seem like either are too high in demand but all you need is one GM to fall in love with either one of them and we might get some fair return.

The deal I figured, 3 years at around 4 mill per year. Makes perfect sense for both sides.

I know it is wishful thinking at this point, but imagine, having a one two punch, with Lu playing 41 and Schneids playing 41...if both manage to go 65%, and they CAN, we would have a season with 106 point base level. If one of them gets HOTTER still...then we climb higher. Just sayin, how could it hurt, from a pure hockey perspective, to have both? we would get very close to a perfect season, IMO. But yeah, I hear at every turn that this idea is not going to work, money, pride, rioters, lol damn you all.

ahh our problem wasnt stopping pucks...it was scoring goals....we just had lu and schneids and were eliminated in the first round.

Now everyone will come on here and say how much they love Lu and they'll miss him, when really it's BS. Most of the people on here couldn't wait to get rid of him.

Well now you got your wish. Time to rejoice I guess.

Don't assume everyone saying that really feels that way. I've felt the same about this situation from the beginning, it's just difficult seeing the guy who got you into watching hockey about to be traded like that (with all the speculation that surrounds him). Hockey's tough when you get emotionally attached to some players, but I guess it's time to accept the fact that Luongo couldn't satisfy everyone. I'll still continue to be a Luongo fan and I hope we get to see him raise the Cup although it will not be as a Canuck.

Most retarded comment ever on CDC, I think the canucks play better in front of schneider, so play the goalie that makes the team worse. Maybe this is backwards day, but if it is you have to announce it.. duh.

why you hatin bro...? you got a problem?? i'm saying if the canucks change and play well in front of both goaltenders then they would be better......

Luongo may very well be gone, but with the mega cap raise, 9mil in goaltending isn't totally unmanagable. Y'know what i mean? We'll see.
