If we were gonna reach out across the sea, and take a defensemen from the KHL (a gamble), then I'd far prefer they talked to Kiril Koltsov, ya know, a Right shooting, very smooth skating, highly skilled offensive D. The thing we lack... I mean, if it's gonna be some sort of project, I'd rather gamble on high skill.

I wonder if they might consider a gamble on Kevin Dallman. He was a little on the small side for the "old" nhl, being under 6', but he developed really well playing in the KHL. He's been one of the best scoring D in the league the last few years. His wife was actually kicked out of Kazakstan for writing the truth about corruption over there and his contract with his team was terminated (had 3 years remaining). Apparently he is signing with SKA St.Petersburg but nothing has been announced officially, so I wonder if he's seeing if any NHL teams have any interest, before he locks in there. He was Captain of his team and was 5th in league scoring (18g, 36a, 54 points in 53 games), just 9 points behind Radulov.

An offensive-minded, puck-moving defenseman. Skates well, and is very mobile. Has a bomb from the point, and displays leader qualities.

And he shoots Right...

After some youtubing I really like this guy. One highlight has him playing for Slovakia in a game against Austria, one of the reds runs his goalie, and he just goes buck on the guy.

I gather nobody here as ever heard of a depth defenceman?
He would be fine as a replacement for Rome on our backend.
But I guess its go big or go home for all of you eh?

So is this guy supposed to be Salo's replacement. Bet not. Why is he even spending time on this guy if he has a year left on his khl contract. He probably would have been available for a long time.

Re-signing Rome is a safer bet. Rome has actual NHL experience.

I wouldn't mind this.

I watched him play when he was with Guelph - solid guy, always puts the effort in, great character and can put points up. He's small but compensates for it quite well. Would come cheap.

It would be an interesting experiment. According to many international hockey fans I've spoken to, Dallman is considered to be one of the greatest current players outside of the NHL.
