[Rumour] Suter narrowing down his options

Recommended Posts

<p>

You realize that Suter is a top 10 defenceman in the NHL right? He's worth just as much as Weber, but for some reason doesn't get as much recognition as him.

I would have no problem with Suter at 8 million based on what some of these other free agents are getting.

rnk(D) name Goals Assists Points +/- 6 Weber 19 30 49 +21 7 Edler 11 38 49 +011 Sutter 7 39 46 +1513 Bieksa 8 36 44 +12...so would you still offer him twice bieksa's value ? or if i follow your ogic, we should re sign Edler for 7.5M /8-10 years?

Our chances to sign Suter revolve around Hamhuis calling him up and talking up Vancouver.

Not sure how close they are from from their time together in Nashville, but that would seem like the logical move on the Canucks part.

You know points aren't everything when determining value right?

Suter has the shutdown abilities of Hamhuis and the offensive ability of Edler. Combining those two things gives you an elite defenseman that will command 7-8 million dollars.

you really think the canucks chances to sign suter revolve around hamhuis saying "vancouver is a great city an the canucks are a great organization" more than it revolves around suter's desire to get market value, hugely long term, and to play in a city where he and his family can be happy?

because if the canucks can offer those things i doubt hamhuis's little pitch would mean much.

Don't underestimate players selling other players on their teams.

Why do you think Edmonton got their players to contact Schultz?

Or why Crosby called up Parise?

Or Toews called up Doan?

It does happen more than you think, and it can give teams an edge over other teams.
