Phil_314
agreed; it's called a market, the producers (players) and buyers (teams) will have different needs and asking prices. The team's needs are a 2nd line play maker (maybe Huselius/ Mueller?) and Top-4 D (Colaiacovo/ Garrison?), maybe 3rd line center (Arnott). I don't see any players of that caliber getting signed for reasonable prices (Whitney for $4.5 per? Kuba for $4 per? Even Salo for $3.75 per? That's crazy). I'm GLAD M.G. stood pat, esp. if he has kids ready coming up. P.S. have a look at your calendar-- it's July 1st. The first day of UFA's. GM's get desperate. Again I'm glad M.G. sat and waited until people have their wits again instead of overpaying to make stupid moves.
nuck nit
Ehrhoff and now heart n soul Sami gone. Well, there is no veteran PP specialist now. So,that gap has to be filled and it will be filled. Good luck,Sami.861 RS / P/O games in a Nucks uniform and not even 3.5 from Gillis' new found tight fists. Rome and Samuelsson also found new homes.Sad day so far. xCANUCKAHOLICx
I am going to step off the beaten and path and thank Gillis for standing pat and not going crazy. I recently watched George McPhee (GM of the capitals), and when asked about free agency he made it very clear it was a time for people to over spend and if you waited to the trade deadline you could pick up the players those GM's over paid for. I mean I love Salo, but 3.75 million per over two years, see ya! Gillis said we were going to get younger and him not moving means we are going to develop our younger players. We do not have to over react. I know that if Daniel Sedon was healthy we would have beat LA and won the cup, we do not have to change a thing. Kevin Connaughton has a boomer of a shot and can replace Salo on the power play while playing as our 6th D-man with Tanev ( who is frickin awesome), our bottom four of Edler, Bieksa, and Hamuis is pretty good, would like to trade Ballard and replace him with a bigger stay at home d-man. Kassian, Jensen, Schroeder, Volpatti ans Weise are going to be better AND WE ARE NOT OVER PAYING FOR THEM. All Gillis needs to do is Trade Luongo to free up some cap space and wait for the trade deadline and were golden. We will be younger and better. If he happens to sneak in a top 6 guy and a big d- man through free agency or trade, great. If not I am confident in our prospects and our coaching staff. You heard it here first ...GILLIS IS BRILLIANT !

Kesler's Nose
If Jason Garrison makes more than 4 mil, I'm going to be very irritated... It's sad to see Salo go, but it is what it is. I hope we can acquire a D-man like Carle as well. If not, I'd like to see us (at least) get our hands on a superstar calibre player like Nash or Jagr. Seeing as Penner and Boyes are now gone-- Boyes for a very cheap, very affordable 1 mil / 1 year deal. My guess is MG is more focused on freeing up a bit of cap space, and a possible Luongo trade right now. Hopefully we see some more substantial moves in the next few days. nucklehead2
I can't believe Salo is actually gone.. I had honestly never pictured him leaving vancouver especially after he said he was staying in hopes to win the cup with us this year. Also with all the possible retirement talk for next season the 2 year deal was really surprising to me. Anyways Gillis is really scaring me, I know we have a great team here but honestly we can't just "stand pat" right now we need defence. And we have a second line situation to fix. I also don't think lapierre will be able to handle the third line centre position, theres just a lot of uncertanty but i guess we will just have to wait and see what free agency and the summer does! snolan
Jesus that is a lot of money for a long time on a guy with 2 NHL seasons. I liked how in one of the JG signing threads the highlights include an empty netter
The Architect
Guys have to remember that next summer we have to re-sign edler, and burrows, as well as push for Weber. So....

Zoolander
Im going to agree with the defense, not nearly as big a deal as everyone is making out to be. however, We need a center really, really badly. I don't see the answer from Toronto, or Florida. Ballard and Raymond won't get us one either.
